Most notably Psychodynamic Theory: It's like taking a journey into your past to understand how it shapes your present.
I'm here to extend a supportive hand to adults going through life's transitions and navigating the unpredictable twists and turns, particularly when it comes to dating and relationships. What you can expect working with me is that I am conversational, candid, and like to sprinkle in humor because therapy doesn't always have to be serious! Picture this: therapy as a chat over coffee, where we dive deep into your emotions and uncover ways to connect with them. My aim is to create a relaxed and safe space where you can freely express yourself, all while keeping things laid back.

Being a teen girl is tough! Raising a teen girl can be even tougher. Anxiety, depression, identity issues, peer relations, academic stress, and outside pressures can leave teen girls needing increased support just as many are beginning to pull away from their parents to develop their own passions and purpose. Parents often find themselves feeling like an outsider as their teen daughters suddenly begin to turn to peers, friends, and social media for advice and guidance instead of mom or dad. This can lead to increased family conflict as parents and teens struggle to communicate with each other and find common ground.

One of the most challenging things to do sometimes is to ask for help. Seeking out a therapist is no different; maybe even more challenging. In reaching out and embracing counseling, you could learn and develop new skills for dealing with stress, anxiety and depression, more effective ways of coping, and improve self-esteem.

You're here, so I’m guessing that something doesn’t feel the way you thought it would. The excitement you had for your future has faded; you’re grieving change, feeling helpless facing the unknown; you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, worried, or hopeless-trapped in familiar patterns. The reasons we struggle are as diverse as our backgrounds and perspectives. But the desire to be known and heard-to hope for meaning, freedom, and joy-is universal. Reaching out for help can feel risky, and you may wonder if your struggles are worthy of someone else's time (and whether it will even help). You have taken a courageous first step.

In order to connect the pieces, I often use Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help you understand your habits and create the changes you want to make.
Feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, or at your breaking point? With all of the challenges life throws at us, it can be easy to feel like this. It can seem like there is not enough time in the day to get everything done. Sometimes we freeze, shut down, and retreat to our shell. Sometimes we lash out in anger. And sometimes we run away from our responsibilities by distracting ourselves in a variety of ways. These may be natural responses. Yet, we will benefit learning ways to strengthen ourselves to overcome these unproductive responses and break what seems like a never ending cycle.

You feel like you're living two lives: in one, you're put-together, sociable, and accomplished. In the other, you're exhausted, overwhelmed, and swirling around relentless self-critical thoughts. It's been this way for a very long time. You can't quite grasp that inner peace you so desperately seek—instead, you're caught in patterns of perfectionism, over-functioning, and self-abandonment. No matter how you try to meld them, your logical mind and emotional mind always seem at odds with each other. But enough is enough. You're done holding up the mask. You're done running from the shadows.

We often find ourselves repeating patterns in our thoughts and our ways of relating that keep us stuck and unable to move forward in life, preventing us from fully experiencing all that we would like. Past relationships and early experiences impact our current perceptions of our self, others, and the world. Therapy provides an opportunity to gain insight and understanding, as well as a space to explore and work through these patterns and places in life in the hope of gaining a greater sense of freedom and aliveness.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
