My approach is rooted in Family Systems Theory, integrating CBT, Narrative, and Schema Therapy as needed.
Human connection is essential. Yet it’s the people we love the most whom we assume cause us the deepest hurt. If only they would listen, understand, and meet our needs. Love should be easy—shouldn’t it? What if I told you that these very paradigms of thinking—though deeply human—can actually stand in the way of the connection we truly desire? My focus is on helping couples (married and unmarried), families, and individuals who find themselves in dysfunctional or disconnected relationship systems. Through a family systems lens, we’ll explore how your current relationship patterns are shaped by the dynamics of your family-of-origin.

I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but I'm also trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Schema Therapy and more.
Tired of having to educate your therapists about your gender identity? Looking for someone who will affirm you instead? Maybe you need help with depression, anxiety, addiction, or relationship issues but you’re worried about being misunderstood or judged for being queer. Or maybe the issue IS sorting out who and what you are. As a transman, I know what that's like. This is a safe space for you. I have 30 years of experience in helping people improve their mood and their lives. We'll work on getting you feeling better, even when the world has been less than kind. You deserve no less.

In particular, I have found Jeffrey Young's schema therapy helpful in changing longterm, self-defeating patterns.
I have been working with individuals and couples for 28 years. Many of the clients I see suffer from depression, anxiety, work and relationship issues (including communication problems, feeling disconnected, infidelity, and divorce). I help clients find new ways of coping, seeing and thinking, and relating. Although I am knowledgeable and skilled in several therapeutic methods, I don't believe in "one-size-fits-all" therapy. Instead, I adapt my treatment plan to meet the needs, goals, and personality of each client.

I have been trained in EMDR and Schema therapy, which along with Motivational interviewing are my primary approaches to therapy.
I believe that everyone can benefit from counseling and therapy at some point in their lives simply because no one has had a perfect life and we all struggle sometimes. I applaud your courage in beginning the process of reaching out for support. I want to create a safe space in which you can share thoughts, feelings and behavior without judgment and where together we can explore them and develop strategies to change those that are causing problems and strengthen those that are helpful and working well. I have experience working with addictions, trauma, dissociation, borderline personality disorder, and mood disorders.

Life can feel overwhelming when stress, anxiety, mood changes, or past experiences start to take over daily life. You may be feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, struggling with emotional regulation, relationship challenges, or finding it hard to manage cravings, impulses, or stress. For many people, these challenges show up alongside depression, trauma, ADHD, or substance use, and can make it difficult to feel steady or hopeful.

I have worked as a therapist in mental health and substance abuse for about 42 years. My work has included all ages, human concerns and find that what makes therapy work is the relationship that we create together. I utilize a variety of modalities and have extensive training. I find I still am learning and mostly from the patients I serve. I have had the fortune to work with some great therapists of the past and they gave me many gifts in working with such a wide variety of people.

Schema Therapy
How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?
Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?
Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognizing and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
