About
When families or their children experience a major life change, the collateral effects can be difficult to handle. Your child’s ability to regulate and control their emotions is linked to how well they’re managing stress in their life. When adolescents are unable to manage the stress they’re experiencing, they have greater difficulty solving problems and often have challenging or confusing behavior. They may lose interest in things they love to do, become more verbally defiant, neglect academic or personal obligations, experience conflict with peers at school, lie, or behave inappropriate online.
There is a reason for everything that people do and it can be difficult to understand why challenging behavior is occurring. Often punishment alone is not enough to enact the change we desire for teens to be healthy. Teens need strategies to cope with stress and redirect their behavior to align with their goals. Developmentally, they cannot do this alone.
I support teens and parents in discovering the function for difficult or troubling behavior and work together to manage life’s challenges. I meet with teens individually and use parent check-ins to provide a unified support system to reach your goals as a family. Together we make small goals that build to create the environment where your family can thrive.
