Anxiety Therapists in Cumberland, IN
As a Mental Health Educational Consultant, my ideal clients are the "first responders of the heart" - churches and community agencies. Those that find themselves navigating the complex intersections of deep compassion and clinical "stuckness." I don't come in to replace missions, but to fortify them. I provide the clinical scaffolding that allows organizations to remain in a place of hope without collapsing under the pressure of the need.
I help build safety nets by helping create clear 'Red Flag' protocols and referral pathways. By partnering with me, you move from being reactive to crisis to being proactive in healing.

I work with teens (13+) and adults navigating self-esteem challenges, stress, anxiety, grief and loss (including pet loss), life transitions, and boundary setting.
My ideal client is someone who feels stuck, has tried other ways to cope without success, and is now ready to move forward. They want clarity about their goals and the focus of treatment, and they value open, conversational sessions with honest feedback. Clients come prepared to explore what matters most to them and are willing to consider handouts or "next steps" between sessions. Together, we work toward meaningful resolutions, growth, and lasting change.

Has your personal growth been slowed down or blocked because of dealing with trauma, anxiety, grief, addiction or depression?
We often develop ways to cope that no longer work for us. Addiction, anger and fear may have helped us to stay away from danger or reduce our symptoms. We can feel stuck in these patterns of behavior instead of being able to move through the challenges. It is a profound privilege to join you on your journey of self-discovery.

Many of my clients' goals involve managing anxiety, depression, identity development, and living authentically so that they can lead happier and healthier lives, whatever that may look like for them.
My approach to therapy is collaborative and transparent. I use the skills and experiences I've gained to help clients achieve their own goals. Instead of curing mental health I believe in helping people understand and manage their issues in sustainable ways. Since I use a lot of metaphors in therapy, the one I use to illustrate and describe my therapeutic process is likening it to a home improvement. My job is to help clients explore and find the right tools for their unique improvements and provide guidance so clients have support while making lasting changes they want in their life. The toolbox can then be used outside of therapy.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
