Our trauma informed team specializes in treating anxiety, depression , trauma, PTSD, compassion fatigue, grief, and other mental health or behavioral concerns.
We welcome first responders such as doctors, nurses, social workers, therapists, teachers, and caregivers; as compassion fatigue, secondary trauma, burnout, and guilt often plague this population. We have a passion for working with individuals who need nonjudgmental support and encouragement to work through past trauma and current barriers to achieve their goals. We all need someone to talk to at some point in our lives. We desire to be change agents and do our part to make this world a better place.

I have worked with clients dealing with stress, anxiety, self-esteem, depression , life changes, addictions, family conflicts, anger management, and parenting.
Managing past experiences of pain and difficulties and/or current issues of trauma (family, relationships, employment etc.) can render one with feelings of helplessness and/or hopeless for tomorrow, this can be devastating. I believe having someone to address these concerns with in a confidential, nonjudgmental, manner can change one's life dramatically for the better. It is important to me to help my client gain insight and the tools to improve their life. My focus throughout our work together is to assure my client they are not alone in their struggle and they can heal, feel whole, and begin to experience a more fulfilled life.

I work with adult clients who feel stuck but still want to build more confidence, more inner peace, and harmonious relationships. I enjoy empowering people to trust in themselves and in their partners. I collaborate best with folks who are smart and creative, spiritual but not necessarily religious. Some have been minorities (e.g., immigrants, LGBTQ+, etc.). Many have been feminists and progressives. Most have struggled with anxiety and depression . All have proven themselves resilient!

Over the years and after receiving thousands of initial calls and emails from clients, it is clear that many are unsure of what they need or where to go. We find great pleasure in helping clients navigate this process. As a group practice we are able to provide services for a variety of needs: anxiety, addictions, pain management, depression , relationship issues, psychological testing, individual, life transitions and even helping clients who just want to live their best life! We stand out in our efforts to make this process as smooth as possible. Many providers boast about their training in a particular treatment approach (and this is important) but research suggests that the interventions are only part of the story. The fit between client and clinician, the wellbeing of the clinician, the ease of access and the experience of the treatment process matter as much, and sometimes more, than the particular treatment model used. Pillars of Wellness was founded with the hope of ensuring an ideal client-clinician fit and providing both clients and clinicians with a positive experience. We let our clinicians excel at their craft by giving them the space to create their ideal practice.

I have nearly 12 years of experience in the treatment of men’s issues, depression , anxiety, adjustment, and emotional trauma.
There are many reasons people seek out counseling, but the underlying reasons are that we are looking for change, meaning, or healing. Whatever your individual needs may be, I commend you for taking the first steps in addressing your situation head-on. Each client is unique, and therefore, there is no one right approach that may work best for everyone. Because of this, I use a trauma-informed integrative style to give you, the client, space to be yourself in an empathic and non-judgmental environment.

My counseling experience has been mostly with adults, children, and teens working through anxiety, depression , relationship difficulties, life adjustments, and trauma.
Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they're never weakness. —Brené Brown Hello! The first step you are taking in your mental health journey is a big step for change. It takes a lot of strength and courage to start therapy so know that is a powerful place to be. Many times people often ask, "what is therapy?" I am here to tell you what it looks like with me. I believe that therapy is about collaboration, working together to meet your needs, and your goals by strengthening your resources to get there.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
