Reaching out to talk to someone can be hard, but I believe it can also be fun. Asking hard questions together, I help clients build on strengths, manage complexity in their relationships, tap creative resources, and make meaning with art, philosophy,
spirituality
, dreams, and the interests and hopes my clients bring.

Because my religious faith and
spirituality
remain important in my own growth and healing, I am open to addressing this demension in clients' lives, if they want to.
I have been working with individuals and couples for 20 years. Many of the clients I see suffer from depression, anxiety, work and relationship issues (including communication problems, feeling disconnected, infidelity, and divorce). I help clients find new ways of coping, seeing and thinking, and relating. Although I am knowledgeable and skilled in several therapeutic methods, I don't believe in "one-size-fits-all" therapy. Instead, I adapt my treatment plan to meet the needs, goals, and personality of each client.

However, I have also had experience with issues including: anxiety and depression, marital difficulties, obsessive worry, compulsive pornography use, struggles with
spirituality
, trauma, and boundaries.
My caseload is full until at least May, 2023. Hi, my name is Sean, and welcome to my page. Let me share a bit about myself. I decided to become a counselor because I realized that one of the things I most enjoyed in life was having deep and meaningful conversations with people that helped them think through issues going on in their lives. I pursued formal education so that I could be of more help to people and turn what I enjoyed into a career. I completed my degree in 2017. Since entering the counseling field I have gotten to work with a variety of populations including: adults, couples, families, and children.

I have a wide range of experience working with individuals and couples dealing with issues such as addiction, pre-marital, affair recovery, communication,
spirituality
, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, work/life balance, grief and loss.
The clients that I see are struggling with how to get and give the love they want and need. Most clients that I work with have a deep desire to feel heard and understood in their intimate relationships. Some clients become lost and struggle with anxiety and depression when feelings of shame, guilt and abandonment come into play. They need someone to help them understand their pain and walk with them as they transform their lives.

It is a complete joy and honor to journey with clients as they work towards journeying towards the life they prefer. I believe the client is the expert of their own life and I get to help them navigate the complexities of life and relationships.

I couple my clinical mental health and business backgrounds to support individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression,
spirituality
, and a variety of life transitions.
When anxiety and depression get the final word, we end up missing out on the life we truly desire to live. We all want to care for the people we love, experience success, and feel peace, but even our deepest values seem impossible to live out when we feel like we can't enjoy the present moment. Therapy offers the support we need to focus on what matters to us, even during painful or unexpected seasons. Pulling from acceptance and commitment (ACT), cognitive-behavioral (CBT), and client-centered approaches, I journey with clients as they process their stories and offer practical tools needed to experience relief and authenticity.

Let's be honest .... relationships can be stressful! Most of the time we might decide to suffer in silence, share details with people who aren't the best "advice givers", or even force ourselves to "accommodate" our partner's needs without being poured into. We can't expect for relationships to become healthy again if we continue with the same attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors when engaging with our loved ones. That's why I'm here; to break up the monotonous routines and to encourage engagement in the use of tools WORTH trying! You can do all things through Christ who strengths you!

I enjoy working with individuals of diverse age groups, from childhood to adulthood. My goal is to empower my clients to deal more effectively with their life circumstances by eliciting insight and equipping them with adaptive coping skills; while utilizing their faith to assist them in the healing process. When working with children, I work closely with the parents to facilitate a team effort in addressing the needs of the child and the family as a whole. I also work with couples to elicit healthier communication patterns, thus promoting couples' satisfaction in their marriage.

I want to work with you if you’re facing long-standing personality issues or relationship struggles growing out of them. Though not a psychoanalyst, I am strongly informed by psychoanalytic theory, particularly object relations and intersubjectivity. I like to work with individuals once or twice a week over periods of at least a year or two, and weekly with couples, focusing on the overlap between emotional issues that arise in the therapy room, in your life outside of therapy, and in your family of origin. I'm interested in concerns growing out of cultural difference, religious commitment, and immigration.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
