Hi! Thanks for joining me! I believe that all individuals are experts on their own life and the therapist is simply an aid in that journey. I use a holistic perspective that includes the mind, body, and spirit in the healing process. My approach is inviting, warm, and accepting, with an emphasis on being curious and reflective. I help individuals examine their life path and how previous experiences influence their current life. I work with young adults and adults. I am a trauma specialist who has extensive training in helping our minds and bodies fully move on from events in the past so we can live the life we want in the present.

It’s can be difficult to ask for help, and understand how daunting it can feel. Often, it seems as if we’re failing ourselves or others when we reach out. Opening up and truly being vulnerable can be one of the toughest moments in life, leaving us feeling exposed and fearful of judgment. I assure you that my mission is to be your ally through your struggles, challenges, and successes. Reaching out and taking that first step may be one of the bravest things you will ever do. It’s an important acknowledgment of your strength and a commitment to your own healing journey.

Hello, I'm Krista. I truly enjoy working with people who are committed to self-improvement and healing. Being relatable and safe are two of the most honored descriptors clients have used to describe me. This comes from my having done, and continuing to do, the work myself. I have created and trademarked Emozen, short for emotional zen, from my personal journey of recovery from developmental trauma. I was honored to be inducted into Who's Who in America 2021-2022 for my work with Emozen, and have been invited again for 2022-2023. Additionally, I was a field trial researcher for the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5).

My work is often a mixture of psychodynamic, attachment, and systems theories.
I work with men who have difficulty identifying with their feelings, struggle with depression and anxiety, or have issues with their work/life balance. My clients typically struggle with expressing themselves in their relationships. They feel lonely, hopeless, and isolated. They are overworked and under loved. In our work together, I will give you support, feedback and insight, and constructively challenge patterns and beliefs that may be getting in your way. Together we can strive to understand the roots of the struggles you are experiencing in your life.

When you are in psychological distress and someone really hears you without passing judgement, without trying to take responsibility, without trying to mold you, the impact can be profound. I strive to be authentic, accepting, and empathetic in the therapeutic relationship to provide a safe space that allows for you to be truly heard. My ideal client is one who is open to doing the difficult work. Yes, if we do the work then life becomes an opportunity to love, and live.

When life looks “fine” from the outside but feels overwhelming on the inside, therapy can help you slow down and find your footing again. I’m an LCSW with nearly 30 years of experience in the mental health field and over 20 years providing therapy to adults navigating anxiety, burnout, chronic stress, emotional overwhelm, work-life imbalance, and major life transitions. I especially enjoy working with high-functioning professionals who are used to carrying a lot for others while quietly struggling with pressure, perfectionism, or exhaustion themselves.

I work from a psychodynamic perspective, which means that I believe that pain and dissonance happen in the context of relationship and, thus, heal in the context of relationship.
I came into this work through my own experiences with both trauma and healing. By engaging in therapy, I began to experience the freedom and hope that came with facing and owning all the parts of my story rather than living within the context of fear and survival strategies that no longer served me. I would be honored to offer support and walk alongside you as you develop understanding and self-compassion, and seek to experience the discovery of freedom and hope for yourself.

My ideal client is someone who feels trapped by anxiety, depression, trauma, or addiction—whether an adult, adolescent, or part of a couple. They recognize that these emotional burdens are blocking their ability to thrive and are ready to take responsibility for change. They seek a safe, non‑judgmental space to explore painful memories, develop healthier coping skills, and move toward greater self‑awareness, resilience, and fulfillment. I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma and addictions, working with individuals, teens and couples.

My background is heavily behavioral (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing) however, over 15 years now I've begun to incorporate psychodynamic and psychoanalytic theory into my practice as short term, behavioral interventions are limited in helping one explore the deeper meanings of their issues.
A new year is a perfect time for change. Life is so hard when we’re stuck in our own heads repeating the same scenarios, worries, and self-critical thoughts. It's exhausting. Does it feel like no matter how hard you try, it’s never all done; figured out; or good enough? Are you spending energy worrying, stressing and controlling instead of making progress toward your goals? The body tension, migraines, weight gain or loss and stomach aches (often triggered by stress) make daily life so much harder than it has to be. Defeat, anger and sadness take over and our relationships, careers and family suffer with us.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and over 15 years of comprehensive clinical experience. I work with mostly teens and adults. I have a particular passion and expertise for working with teenagers as they struggle to define their identities, cope with the rapid physical, emotional and psychological changes that take place within them and adjust to the demands of peers, schools, families and society. I provide a non-judgmental and compassionate atmosphere in which you can safely explore and work through feelings, thoughts and beliefs that may be keeping you stuck.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
