My specialties include: family of origin issues (the family you grew up in), setting boundaries, anxiety , forgiveness, and adoption issues.
I like the phrase “when we know better, we do better”. Every single one of us grew up learning some good things and some bad things and as an adult, we often realize that some of the things we learned weren’t healthy or maybe they suited us well when we were younger but don’t work anymore. I love to walk alongside my clients and help them learn what works and what doesn’t and learn new strategies to live a full life with less stress and anxiety .

It is my belief that many people struggle through their days with feelings of stress and anxiety to the point where they begin to accept it as a normal part of their lives. I'm here to tell you it doesn't have to be. Oftentimes, the thought of finding a therapist you can relate to seems more daunting than your current daily struggles. You continue to live in a cloud of overwhelm, struggling to make it through each day and hoping tomorrow will be better... but it's not.

However, I have also had experience with issues including: anxiety and depression, marital difficulties, obsessive worry, compulsive pornography use, struggles with spirituality, trauma, and boundaries.
My caseload is full until at least May, 2023. Hi, my name is Sean, and welcome to my page. Let me share a bit about myself. I decided to become a counselor because I realized that one of the things I most enjoyed in life was having deep and meaningful conversations with people that helped them think through issues going on in their lives. I pursued formal education so that I could be of more help to people and turn what I enjoyed into a career. I completed my degree in 2017. Since entering the counseling field I have gotten to work with a variety of populations including: adults, couples, families, and children.

Did you know that perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are the most common complication of childbirth? I believe that the journey of becoming a parent is both joyful and challenging. Many of us are also dealing with added stressors like a global pandemic, information overload, not enough support, hormone changes, fussy babies, unsolicited advice, work-life balance, symptoms of depression or anxiety , and more.

I've worked with issues that interfere with life relationships and work: depression, anxiety , addiction, divorce, body image issues, identity issues, grief, and more.
One of my greatest passions is to embrace ourselves where we are, while also committing to change. I firmly believe that our capacity for joy relates to how we move through suffering and difficult emotions. Offering kindness to ourselves and others along with allowing emotions instead of avoiding, deepens life experiences. This type of space encourages an understanding of your story while actively creating the future you see for yourself. I hope to provide a safe, trusting environment where you can explore the areas of desired change and growth. Our partnership can help navigate the journey with authenticity and courage.

It can be difficult to know when to seek help for emotional pain. Everyone experiences fluctuations in mood, but if depression, anxiety , panic attacks, sleep or appetite disturbances, difficulty with attention and focus, performance anxiety , or relational conflicts are interfering with your daily life, there are interventions that can help you. I work well with individuals during life transitions (divorce, changing family dynamics, parenting stress), employment related stressors and burnout, vicarious trauma for helping professionals (medical professionals, law enforcement, social services, etc), anxiety disorders, and relationship stress.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
