As a therapist, I work with male clients who are dealing with a wide variety of mental health issues. My specialty is in the areas of
parent
/teen relationships, teen behaviors, and men's issues. Are you a
parent
looking for solutions to the torn relationship you have with your teen? Are you a man trying to figure out how to balance life's problems without losing yourself altogether? You want solutions to these issues so you can find peace in your relationships and peace within.

I believe that every
parent
is doing their best to meet the needs of their child and asking for support in your journey is the first step toward being, not only their
parent
, but also their advocate.
Has there been a recent change in your child's behavior or emotions? Has your family experienced an increase in stress and you are needing support with adjusting?
Parenting
is hard and
parenting
a child with behavioral or emotional needs is exceptionally challenging.

I have worked with depression, anxiety,
parenting
issues, relationship issues, trauma, substance abuse, gray drinking in many different capacities.
Therapy is only as good as your relationship with your therapist. You want to find someone you feel comfortable sharing everything with because if you hold back how can you move towards healing? Therapy is shown to be effective not by how many credentials a person has but their ability to connect with their clients. There is nothing worse leaving your first session not wanting to come back and then feeling exhausted and apprehensive trying to find another therapist. I encourage you to reach out to the therapist to see if you like their vibe.

I am trained in EMDR, Theraplay and Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) for
parenting
and attachment issues, and Prepare/Enrich to help couples.
A common phrase I hear is "I just feel stuck." The people who say that know there is something better out there, but they don't know how to move in that direction. My role is to help you better understand yourself, heal from whatever life has thrown at you, and make the most of who you want to be. Many people reach out because their lives seem to lack meaning, they don't feel worthwhile, they find some challenges overwhelming, or they just don't seem to feel joy from their relationships or activities. That's where we begin the work. We start where you are.

Are you weighed down by “doing it all” and always left feeling like it’s not quite enough? Do you often feel overwhelmed and exhausted? Whether it’s
parenting
struggles, food and body concerns, relationship difficulties, past wounds, or all of the above, the demands of our lives can leave us frazzled and empty. Without focusing on our needs and caring for ourselves, we can become burned out, anxious, and lost. We repeat patterns of behavior in our relationships that don’t serve us anymore and keep us stuck.

At MMHI we provide therapy for Men, Women, Married & Non-Married Couples. Men are currently going through an identity crisis. Decades ago, men were appreciated, respected, and cherished for simply working and providing for their households. The expectations from partners/spouses, children, and members of the community, have shifted greatly for various reasons, leaving men in a lost space. This space will leave a man feeling unwanted, used, abused, and unloved - causing anxiety, depression, anger, resentment, infidelity, and other life damanging issues.

My top priority is to provide a safe and nurturing counseling environment where my clients feel supported as they learn and grow. I blend several different counseling techniques together in a manner that fits each client's specific needs. Through careful listening and understanding, I guide my clients in examining their current and past attitudes, feelings, beliefs, thoughts, and choices and collaborate with each client to determine how these are affecting their day-to-day lives. Together, we create a plan to work through these issues, and I challenge and support my clients as they make positive choices and changes.

The story of our lives often shape our day to day experiences. As we open up to our story and how we ended up at a certain space in our lives, we begin to see patterns. We begin to see unhealthy ways we have responded to people, relationships that have been less than productive, or events that unfolded different than we had hoped. In order to grow and set a new course, we need to identify the patterns that have lead us here. Therapy is about doing just that - uncovering underlying, most the time subconscious, ways of thinking, so that we can become the people that we want to be.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
