I welcome working with partnerships (non-monogamous and monogamous), families (biological, blended, transracial adoptees), and individuals with identities in LGBTQ +, BDSM/Kink, and other sexually diverse communities.
I believe that people often thrive when they prioritize their own individual health and are supported by their community. Challenges arise whenever our community is in chaos, our own health suffers, and the stories we once ascribed to no longer serve us. While these experiences can overwhelm us, make us feel powerless, or lose hope, I want you to know that you are not alone. She understands that being human is hard and relationships can be complicated, painful, and change the how we honor our authentic selves. That’s why I work to help empower clients by creating a space that is safe, open, curious, and built on advocacy.

Working with individuals who identify as LGBTQ + has become a passion of mine.
I am currently accepting new clients. I work with individuals (children and adults), couples, and families, ranging in ages from 7 to 83 who are experiencing a wide range of symptoms. I have extensive work in trauma and sexual abuse issues. I have extensively researched issues and stressors that today's LGBTQ + clients and families may be experiencing, and work with transgender clients so that they can gain the medical treatment they need. Trained in family systems, I have experience working with infidelity, breakdowns in communication, and the merging of step-families.

My practice includes EMDR therapy and more traditional psychotherapy for clinical concerns including (but not limited to) depression, anxiety, LGBTQ -related issues, eating disorders, gender dysphoria, relationship problems, trauma, and grief.
I believe that human beings have an inherent longing and need for wholeness and balance, which is our natural state of being. However, we sometimes encounter damaging or traumatic events or long term stress that interrupt this natural state. When we are imbalanced, we develop psychological and/or physical symptoms, and we begin to use ineffective coping mechanisms. The good news is that with the right tools, these struggles can be used as a path back to the wholeness we seek. Having worked with clients for over twenty years, I know firsthand the power of using our difficulties to point the way towards healing.

I enjoy working with both complicated mental health concerns, and generally healthy people struggling adjusting to their ever-changing lives. After identifying your goals in therapy, I will support you in understanding and overcoming barriers to these goals in the context of your life, mind, and body. The exploration this entails will help you generate self-compassion while accomplishing meaningful change. Your initial goals will be the focus of this exploration, but clients often achieve even greater change as well. I have particular skill working with personality disorders, sexual concerns, LGBTQ + issues, and existential issues.

I work with adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, life adjustments and transitions, family of origin issues, and LGBTQ + related issues, among others.
You are worthy of a peaceful, fulfilling, meaningful life. So many of us struggle with emotional pain, insecurities, or symptoms of mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. You may find that the ways you have learned to handle these struggles are not moving your life in the direction you want. People pleasing, perfectionism, overworking, and self-sabotaging are among many ways people cope. If you want to make a change, but don’t know how, therapy can help. You deserve to be seen and understood, and you don’t have to do this alone.

When you have suffered trauma, you learn early on that you can not say "no". As a result, maybe you struggle with people pleasing, saying "yes" to whatever comes up to avoid conflict, and hopefully, demonstrate your value. Maybe you feel like you can't trust yourself, can't trust others, and are destined to live a life of powerlessness and shame. When was the last time you remember having good sleep? The last you felt good enough? Safe? Whole? Or maybe you are concerned about ailing relationships in your life; be they with family, friends, or your partner? Maybe you want to feel closer to others but don't know how? We can help.

I feel disconnected and alone. I don't have anyone around that really understands my problem. I don't want to burden my friends and family with my concerns. I'm worried someone will judge me if I tell them the truth. Have you had some of these thoughts? Fear of being judged or burdensome keeps a lot of people from finding the help they want.

~I am currently not accepting new clients~ Considering therapy is a courageous step to take, as it often seems easier to avoid what is uncomfortable than to face it. It is important that we develop a safe, trusting, and comfortable relationship as the foundation to address the issues that brought you in. I have 22 years of experience working with children, adolescents, families, and adults. My treatment approach is guided by family systems, insight-oriented, and attachment theories.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
