Are you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck during the transition to parenthood or in your relationship? I work with individuals, couples, new parents, and men navigating identity shifts, communication struggles, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and relationship stress. Maybe becoming a parent has left you feeling unlike yourself. Maybe the transition into parenthood has created distance between you and your partner, with recurring arguments, miscommunication or quiet disconnection. Or maybe you’ve been carrying more than you let on—holding it together on the outside while feeling heavy, frustrated, or depleted inside.

Avon, IN 46123
Mac enjoys the energy young people bring to life. Having served as a youth pastor for more than a decade, he’s well aware of the many transitions people experience during their teen years, and he recognizes the importance of creating safe spaces where they share, ask questions, and grow as they navigate life. In addition to working with teens, Mac enjoys helping couples prepare for marriage, and supporting them when they need to strengthen their relationships and transform conflict into positive actions. Mac also sees a high value in walking alongside men in creating space for them to explore emotional expression and vulnerability.

Counseling is always challenging work, and my path has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to help people who are struggling with particularly dark spaces. From addictions, to pornography, to domestic violence, to anger issues, to couples at the breaking point, I am ready and prepared to aid in healing, regardless of the degree of pain or dysfunction. If you’ve never talked with a counselor, you might be anxious. I understand that counseling is never easy. But then, neither is life. And there’s no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed about asking for help. In fact, knowing you need help is a sign of courage and character.

The story of our lives often shape our day to day experiences. As we open up to our story and how we ended up at a certain space in our lives, we begin to see patterns. We begin to see unhealthy ways we have responded to people, relationships that have been less than productive, or events that unfolded different than we had hoped. In order to grow and set a new course, we need to identify the patterns that have lead us here. Therapy is about doing just that - uncovering underlying, most the time subconscious, ways of thinking, so that we can become the people that we want to be.

You’ve been carrying a lot for a long time. Showing up for everyone else while quietly feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally drained, or disconnected from yourself. You show up for others and keep going even when you feel exhausted. Maybe you find yourself overthinking, struggling with boundaries, replaying conversations in your mind, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. On the outside, you may appear strong and put together, but internally, you are exhausted from carrying so much on your own. Deep down, you know something needs to change. You are just not sure where to begin.

As a therapist, I understand that it can be a hard road to healing. Accepting a little help along the way should not be seen as a sign of weakness, but rather a step toward a greater you!

Mental health challenges are often rooted in stress or trauma. If you or your family/children are dealing with issues such as emotional dysregulation, anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, or chronic pain, we can discuss strategies and solutions. Ups and downs are too often paired with self-defeating patterns of behaviors that deter growth. Too much screen time dopamine? Lack of sleep, hydration or exercise? Feeling socially isolated? If you're overwhelmed, struggling with past problems, or seeking support for yourself or a child with special needs, let's collaborate on practical approaches for positive change.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
