Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists in Avon, IN
It’s hard to remember a time you weren’t in survival mode. No matter what you do, nothing is making a difference. Things from your past might keep popping up & derailing your day, and with everything else going on, you don’t even feel like you know yourself anymore. Therapy before this might have even felt like it only scraped the surface, leaving you alone to try and figure out what to do next. It’s exhausting & the crazy thing is, nobody would even guess you’re feeling this way because you’ve got this image of “having it all together,” but deep down you know the cracks are getting bigger. Something has to change, but what?

I use EMDR, IFS, and DBT not as a checklist but because they actually work for the nervous systems I see most.
I specialize in trauma, neurodivergence, and queer identity, not as separate categories but as the deeply interconnected experiences they usually are. I use an eclectic blend with clients whose nervous systems have been working overtime for years. If you're autistic, ADHD, queer, chronically ill, or some combo — this practice was built was built for you.

My top priority is to provide a safe and nurturing counseling environment where my clients feel supported as they learn and grow. I blend several different counseling techniques together in a manner that fits each client's specific needs. Through careful listening and understanding, I guide my clients in examining their current and past attitudes, feelings, beliefs, thoughts, and choices and collaborate with each client to determine how these are affecting their day-to-day lives. Together, we create a plan to work through these issues, and I challenge and support my clients as they make positive choices and changes.

I specialize in working with queer clients and individuals healing from complex trauma using EMDR and parts-informed ( IFS) approaches.
You may be someone who has been carrying a lot for a long time. Trauma, identity stress, or past relationships may still show up in your body, emotions, or patterns, even when you understand them logically. You might feel disconnected from yourself, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward, while still wanting therapy that feels safe, affirming, and respectful. You’re looking for a space where you don’t have to explain or defend who you are, and where healing doesn’t feel rushed or forced.

While I consider myself an integrative clinician, I primarily use Internal Family Systems ( IFS) and psychodynamic therapy to help you understand contradictory voices in your head and learn to trust your intuition.
As an insight-oriented therapist, I help clients who feel stuck to gain a deeper understanding of their patterns and values - which becomes the pathway for growth and change. I specialize in working with high achieving adults who struggle with intense inner critics, depression, anxiety, and long-term impacts of childhood complex trauma. Often, I see clients who have tried other modes of therapy but still feel stuck in a cycle of perfectionist expectations, shame, defensiveness, and emotional shutdown. Instead of fighting against and shaming yourself, I help you approach yourself and your patterns with curiosity and compassion.

My work integrates cutting-edge models such as Internal Family Systems ( IFS), EMDR tools, Polyvagal Theory, etc to bring together the science and soul of healing.
I am a Christian counselor/coach and I am passionate about helping men experience freedom from compulsive behaviors and, as a result, a deeper connection with God, themselves, and others. I specialize in helping men struggling with addictive and compulsive behaviors like pornography, sex, drugs, alcohol, food, work, video games, relationships, etc.
After more than 20 years of experience, I have found that true lasting healing does not happen in isolation. Weekly recovery groups provide the accountability, honesty, and brotherhood required for lasting transformation. That is why I now fully focus on the power of group work.

I utilized and trained in several modalities used for trauma including Internal Family Systems (level 1), EMDR, and DBT.
Trauma impacts us in ways we can’t imagine. It affects human development and rewires our brain. I remember seeing the impact trauma from childhood had for my adult clients. I remember seeing elementary school children and the impact trauma has on their ability to develop healthy relationships. Processing trauma isn’t something you need to do alone. I can still remember meeting with a teen girl and seeing her relief after processing her trauma and expressing how much better she felt. Working through trauma allows my clients to feel relief and feel a decrease in their daily triggers.

I use a combination of ACT, EMDR, Brainspotting, IFS, CBT, and Narrative Therapies that have been shown to be effective for a wide range of challenges including: PTSD, OCD, Depression, Anxiety, and Addictions.
Everyone has a story with ups and downs, twists and turns, hopes and disappointments. Being alive is about doing what you care about, in service of your values, while accepting and thriving through your story’s plot twists. I enjoy helping people make sense of their story and to set free their free will, so as to live in the freedom of your chosen values. In addition to my Masters in Social Work, I also have a Master of Arts in Theology. While I will honor every client’s personal/spiritual beliefs as valid and their own, clients that wish to include their Catholic/Christian values will find the support they are looking for.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
