Healing from our suffering—not just coping with it, but transforming it into growth—often requires a journey through it. It’s been said that “feelings buried alive never die.” Fear, sadness, rejection—all want acknowledgment so that we will not stay stuck in past pain. Once we bring our experience into the light, our truth can be validated. "My feelings are real." This is an important step in reaching a place of acceptance. Once the fog or confusion lifts, clarity follows and with it the momentum and freedom to finally release, let go, and move forward.

Common issues I treat include: anxiety, self-esteem, attachment difficulties and trauma.
Finding help (and the right kind of help) for your child or even knowing where to start can be overwhelming. The fact that you’re even reading this though says one thing: you have hope, and that’s the first step! Therapy can help your child learn how to navigate difficult emotions, gain understanding of their personal goals, and find confidence in who they are, all in a safe and warm environment.

Feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, or at your breaking point? With all of the challenges life throws at us, it can be easy to feel like this. It can seem like there is not enough time in the day to get everything done. Sometimes we freeze, shut down, and retreat to our shell. Sometimes we lash out in anger. And sometimes we run away from our responsibilities by distracting ourselves in a variety of ways. These may be natural responses. Yet, we will benefit learning ways to strengthen ourselves to overcome these unproductive responses and break what seems like a never ending cycle.

You made the decision to seek therapy, and you also realized you don't want it to take weeks, months, or years. Welcome to Hearthspring Therapy Intensives, where we utilize Brainspotting and a focused, intentional space to process trauma in a matter of days instead of weeks. Trauma doesn’t live in neat, 50-minute segments. It lives in the body, in relationships, in the nervous system. An intensive allows us to move beyond surface-level coping into meaningful processing, stay with the work long enough for real integration, and creates measurable progress in a short, contained period of time.

The main issues I help with include sports performance anxiety, identity transitions, perfectionism and self-worth concerns, family conflict, and the unique experiences of BIPOC athletes.
Are you the athlete who looks unstoppable on the surface but battles self-doubt when no one's watching? Maybe you're navigating a major transition—changing teams, retiring from sport, or figuring out who you are beyond your performance. You might be carrying the weight of being "the only one" in spaces where you don't see yourself reflected. You're tired of generic advice and need someone who understands the unique pressures of competition, perfectionism, and proving yourself in environments that weren't built for you. You want a therapist who won't minimize your experience or tell you to "just think positive". I actually get it.

Self Esteem Therapists
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
