My name is Nytisha White and I have over twenty years of experience working with clients who need help in addressing problematic behaviors that tend to impair their ability to function. I have treated individuals, from childhood to adulthood, who struggle with ways to manage emotions, mood, impulsivity, and addictive behaviors. In addition to this, as a behavioral specialist, I have also worked closely with parents seeking help in managing the behaviors of their special needs children. Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes, even the strongest people amongst us need a little bit of help to work through some of life’s more challenging problems. Everyone has battles to fight and hurdles to overcome at some point. As I once desperately needed a trustworthy therapist to navigate my most difficult life seasons, my dream career has been fulfilled by being that person for others. My counseling experience began by treating eating disorders in inpatient, residential and partial hospitalization, where I observed the devastation eating disorders cause - and that they're about so much more than food and weight. Now counseling in outpatient, I still especially love treating disordered eating and body image struggles. Since my Christian faith was a central piece of my own recovery, I incorporate it into my work with clients whenever they prefer it.

I am a very down to earth, “let’s get real” type of human and trauma therapist. I work with clients ages 15+ to overcome thoughts, behaviors and feelings related to trauma from experiencing physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, financial, infidelity, and military trauma among others. My style tends to be very real. I don’t shy away from anger, cursing, or sensitive subjects. I believe therapy sessions make more progress if we have a great rapport so that you can be your authentic self without feeling like you have to sensor yourself. I specialize in EMDR, prolonged exposure, narrative, and other trauma-specific therapies.

As we go through life we face challenges, from these challenges we may experience pain and suffering. As this pain becomes stored within us it creates burdens that may sometimes be too heavy to bear. As a result many may turn to temporary solutions. As I work with clients to explore and resolve pain and trauma more permanent solutions are often discovered and the burden of pain is reduced.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
