Oftentimes, we develop patterns of behaving and relating to others as a way of coping with and protecting ourselves from our early environments. As we expand out past those early experiences and relationships, we may find that these old ways of thinking, behaving, and relating no longer work for us. Together in therapy, we will explore the origins and functions of those patterns, gaining an awareness of how they show up and how we might develop a new path.

I believe that couples who succeed in intimate relationships know how to handle difficult moments in ways that cultivate respectfulness and receptiveness in their partners. My style is gently reflective, providing clients an in-depth understanding of their emotional processes and attachment needs. I encourage clients to work collaboratively towards a deep and lasting connection by helping couples develop the complete set of habits characteristic of people who know how to get their partners to treat them well.

My practice supports children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing acute and/or chronic distress. For some, events like divorce, trauma, loss, and adjustment to a blended family or a new school spark symptoms. As a result, depression, anxiety, temper tantrums, mood swings, bullying, isolation, addiction, and academic failure may emerge. Many others have been living with the pain of recurrent anxiety and depression for decades. I support people as they work through these difficulties. I believe in people's capacity to grow, change, and move towards self-determined goals.

My philosophy in working with clients is to build a trusting relationship with them by learning about their story - their family's story, their personal story, their triumphs and their challenges. I then work with the client to use their strengths to help them form a new story, a story where they change ingrained habits and live the life they have always wanted to live. I like to use the relationship we have built together to help the client feel safe making these changes in a supported environment.

Braving the world’s questions and constant change can feel immensely overwhelming at times. You don’t know where to begin to make positive changes in your life. You are not alone in feeling this way. Challenges in life are to be expected, but suffering is not. With support, new perspectives and kindness we can work together to create a safe space for positive change. The thought may be that therapy should always be creating forward progress, the pace of each person's therapy journey should be suited to the individual. I am here to listen and walk with you in discovering how you want to be living your life as your true self.

"You cannot swim for new horizons until you have courage to lose sight of the shore." - William Faulkner. The power of being able to accept and let go the anxiety, challenges, and losses we face can allow our minds the emotional space to grow. By using mindfulness methods, you will be able to practice patience, acceptance, forgiveness, ownership, and kindness towards yourself. Seeking help and allowing yourself to be vulnerable takes such strength and courage. My goal is to help you heal emotionally, mentally, physically, relationally, and spiritually.

I view the therapeutic relationship as a partnership, and find the relational aspect of therapy to be an integral piece in making strides towards meeting the clients needs and goals. Confronting the difficulties and pain in life is often challenging and uncomfortable—as such I strive to create a safe space for my clients to process authentically. I know each client is unique and work to meet the client where they are, with empathy, humor, support, challenge, and encouragement throughout our journey together. I offer services for clients ages 12+, and have experience working with a wide range of clients and in various settings.

How can I find a therapist in Illinois?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
