I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT ), Solutions-Focused Therapy (SFT), and mindfulness-based interventions, and use an eclectic approach that allows each client’s needs to take the center of a therapy session.
I support individuals, couples, and families around diverse experiences such as issues with substances, depression, anxiety, identity development, and other life challenges. With training in intimate partner violence, unhealthy relationships, and body-based interventions, I take a trauma-informed approach to therapy; ensuring a comfortable environment for clients in which to delve into tough experiences and make changes in life through introspection, understanding, and empowerment.

When working with clients, I love using psychodynamic therapy, DBT , CBT, ACT and story-focused therapies known as narrative therapy.
My philosophy in working with clients is to build a trusting relationship with them by learning about their story - their family's story, their personal story, their triumphs and their challenges. I then work with the client to use their strengths to help them form a new story, a story where they change ingrained habits and live the life they have always dreamed of living. Cuando trabajo, mi filosofía es crear una relación con clientes y escuchar su propia historia. Mi objetivo es ayudarlos a realizar su sueno.

I use DBT as well as narrative therapy, queer theory, and cultural-responsiveness as foundations for my practice.
If you've found yourself here on this page, that tells me you are ready to do what it takes to survive. You are the expert on your life. I'm here to listen and bear witness to your story. Seeking help makes you brave, period. None of us can do this alone and we shouldn't have to. If you are queer, I've got you. If you are trans or gender non-conforming, I see you. If you are a Spanish-speaker, I would love to accompany you. I use a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach, which means we move at your speed. You are the one who decides what you need to feel safe. It's my job to respect that.

I get excited about the therapeutic process and specialize in treating mood disorders and anxiety through a mix of mindfulness, CBT, DBT , and ACT.
My assumption about most people who seek out a therapist is they are stuck in a situation and have already tried everything they can think of to get unstuck. I am solution-focused and specialize in helping folks get unstuck through my pragmatic, non-judgmental, and client-centered approach. I enjoy working with individuals and couples to develop new skills that will empower them to move towards the lives they want to live.

My specializations include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT ), psychological assessment, and diversity-focused approaches to psychology.
With PSYPACT, I can offer telehealth service across 26+ states. My primary approach includes empowering individuals of marginalized communities to externalize systemic and oppressive factors so that we can focus on treating any personal difficulties that are causing you pain and suffering. Whether we focus on the past or the present, healing one part of yourself can heal many other parts of yourself because you have a story to tell--and no matter how many ways you tell it or how many times, it is your personal story. Let's change your story and help you become the person you want to be.

Living in a city as big as Chicago offers many opportunities yet it can sometimes feel overwhelming, lonely, and even isolating. Are you hiding certain pieces of yourself from your friends or family to avoid conflict or to fit in? You might feel like no one knows the real you. You’ve noticed a shift in how you deal with stress. Maybe it’s coming out as increased drinking, binging or restricting food, or turning to other coping behaviors. Or maybe you’re in recovery but other parts of your life continue to feel unmanageable which feels frustrating. You no longer need to feel trapped. Change is possible and hope can be found.

As a clinical therapist and trauma-focused yoga instructor, Kath believes there is radical healing in the connection between mind and body. Kath collaborates with clients to reconnect with themselves in a supportive and healing way. They incorporate gentle somatic movement, breathe work, and grounding in their therapeutic sessions with clients. As a graduate of University of Chicago (SSA/Crown), Kath studied and sincerely connected with the mindful and values-based practices of Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT ) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), where each client can feel empowered and validated in their experience.

I offer client-centered compassion-based therapy that incorporates methods such as Socratic questioning, DBT , executive function coaching, and narrative therapy.
I have been in practice as an acupuncturist for the last ten years and more recently became a licensed social worker. As an integrative practitioner, I have worked primarily with trauma survivors, people with chronic illnesses and pain, and LGBTQ2IA emerging adults. I am sex/kink/polyamory-positive, body-neutral, and sex-worker affirming. I strive to acknowledge and to combat the systemic impact of White supremacy, including its relationship to fatphobia, transphobia, and ableism. I currently specialize in supporting neurodivergent and/or queer emerging adults as they navigate the anxieties and stressors of late stage capitalism.

My ideal client is someone who has a foundation of wellness and is looking to bridge the chasm between where they are and where they would like to be. They have self-awareness, motivation, and a support system to aid them in their journey. They are looking to learn and implement sustainable tools, practices, and habits that will embody their authentic truth and enhance their lives as a whole. They are curious and open about alternative and holistic methods of healing. They are willing to lean into fear of walking the unknown path of internal alchemy and evolution, knowing they are the ultimately the one that can heal themselves.

I have focused my work on supporting queer and trans people and people of color. The clients who tend to be the best fit for my clinical approach tend to be people who are looking to be pushed, who want to build self-awareness, and want to change their relationship with their younger selves. They are asking the questions, "Who I am in this world?" or "How do I heal from the violence of the world?" or "How do I do things differently?" They want to build meaningful lives, practice gratitude and mindfulness, and alleviate suffering by offering themselves understanding and self-nurture.

Finding a queer affirming therapist can sometimes feel impossible, but I specialize in working with people within the queer community. I have extensive education and experience working with trauma from my work at a domestic violence shelter, mitigation services within the prison system, homeless youth and adult services, and alcohol and substance use disorder recovery services. You should be able to feel comfortable with your therapist and feel you are being listened to and helped. Making that first call can be the hardest, especially if you have felt you weren’t understood or accepted in the past.

Teletherapy
Teletherapy and Online counseling have grown enormously as a medium for therapy since the advent of social distancing. Most therapists are happy to provide sessions by video or phone.

All professionals are licensed to provide video therapy to clients within the State in which they hold their license. Cross State licensing exists, but is rare.

So if you're a client in Illinois, this list of teletherapists are licensed to provide therapy to you online (by phone, video or text based chat) because they are within your state. They are sorted nearest to furthest, with professionals in Illinois listed first.

Teletherapy via phone or video can be very similar to conventional in person sessions. The message is the same, even if the medium is different. There are some advantages in the form of convenience, lack of travel and being in comfort of your own home. Set against those, professionals find it more difficult to read non-verbal signals of their clients, and you may find you yourself can be more easily distracted.
