Part of being alive is to experience fear, doubt, depression, and a multitude of events that bring about suffering. Of course, there are varying degrees, as some people are just having trouble adjusting to a circumstance in their life and need a little support in the right direction. For others, the problem may be chronic such as PTSD or depression. Most certainly, the state of American politics and the world today, have raised most people's base level of anxiety or depression.

Many people think that therapy is simply a place to vent about life’s problems. Or that only people with “problems” need therapy. This is not the case! Therapy is where you go to meet with someone who is trained and skilled in providing resources that help you navigate life’s challenges. Everyone can benefit from that type of support! To the person struggling with anxiety, imagine feeling so confident in yourself that everything in your life reflects that. To the person struggling with a traumatic past, imagine becoming so healed that you can handle whatever else life throws at you. If you want to work towards healing, contact me.

Practical. Relevant. Compassionate. Challenging and Gentle. Humorous and Kind. Respectful and Accepting. Warm and Creative. We'll work together with intention, mutual respect, and a collaborative spirit. I primarily work with adults and couples regarding relationship issues and parents encountering 'parenting.' Holding the unwavering belief that people have the capacity to improve the course of their lives, I have considerable tenacity in helping clients handle reoccurring issues, and install new habits and ways of thinking/acting/feeling/doing. I enjoy working with people who are motivated to do something different.

Suffering is often the result of less than nurturing relationships and experiences. Fear can become imprisoned in the body. Family and culture can dictate how safe it is, or not safe, to express and be yourself. My immigrant experience from Taiwan allows me deeper empathy with people navigating life transitions and relating to different cultures and new relationships. At Embodied Way Psychotherapy PLLC, I strive to empower individuals within the context of systemic injustice and complications. My work is to provide compassion and wisdom so that you can feel fully alive and authentic in your body, your world and your relationships.

With life changing at such a rapid pace, you may feel it's difficult to cope with daily routines, or things aren't the way they used to be. We have all been though a huge upheaval the past few years. Maybe your child/tween/teen/20 yr old has become surprisingly disagreeable, and is asserting an unusually strong sense of independence, spending less time with family, pushing you away, shutting down, refusing to go to school/grades dropping, spending long hours on social media, or are in their room with the door shut. You may notice changes in appearance, style or name. Whether sudden or gradual, you may not know how to help or cope.

Stories have always been important to me. I find myself inspired, enthralled, and humbled by the stories of people and their relationships with each other. I believe in the importance of honoring each story I hear and working with clients to help their life be as they imagine it to be. I find value in working with my clients to understand the impact of their important relationships to their lives. I love being a therapist and I feel humbled and fortunate every day to be in this profession. My approach to working with clients is to get to know their narrative and help them identify the obstacles that are constraining them.

As a therapist, I enjoy helping individuals and families reach their full potential and overcome obstacles. I encourage clients to learn new skills in therapy, gain insight and learn to collaborate with me, their families, and other important individuals in their lives. I have experience working with young children, especially those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety and SPD. While working with parents, I respect them as the expert on their children, while providing insight based on experience and knowledge of current research. With young children, I use play therapy to help facilitate communication between the child and the therapist.

How can I find a therapist in Illinois?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
