Life can be challenging, and everyone has times when they feel overwhelmed and need some support. In my work, I provide a caring, nonjudgmental environment for adolescents, adults, and their families to speak openly about their lives and to explore their true selves. Therapy is meant to be collaborative, so picture me as a trusted guide walking beside you as you face what comes next. I specialize in working with young people, people with anxiety , and folks in the LGBTQ+ community.

I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety , the LGBTQIA community, and the Geek Community.
Are you a member of the LGBTQIA community or an ally? Have you struggled to find a therapist who is engaging and focused on change? Are you a geek who feels unheard, over-diagnosed for your hobbies and passions, and enjoy creative endeavors like table-top RPGs, video games, and board games? I view my role as a lantern in the dark. It is challenging to walk around in the dark without any sense of direction before you find a lantern sitting on a stool. It is up to you to decide to pick up the lantern, to use it to guide your path through the dark, walk the path, overcome the barriers before you, and find mental wellness.

You are good. Rarely do folks act in ways that don't make sense to them. Maybe you are experiencing frustration in relationships. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed by sadness, fears , or exhaustion. You are human. In this space you will be heard and validated as you discover more about yourself and develop compassion for the parts of you that may seem most dark. And sometimes the path to wellness is to allow ourselves to be discovered more deeply.

Feelings of anxiety , depression, anger/frustration, or grief can begin to change life in a way that feels unbearable.
Finding a queer affirming therapist can sometimes feel impossible, but I specialize in working with people within the queer community. I have extensive education and experience working with trauma from my work at a domestic violence shelter, mitigation services within the prison system, homeless youth and adult services, and alcohol and substance use disorder recovery services. You should be able to feel comfortable with your therapist and feel you are being listened to and helped. Making that first call can be the hardest, especially if you have felt you weren’t understood or accepted in the past.

I believe that through processing memorable events, trauma, shame, isolation, addiction, and depression/ anxiety , personal growth can be achieved.
“Not all who wander are lost” is a quote I have loved while walking through my own life’s uncertainty. When you find yourself faced with an unclear path, talking with a therapist offers comfort, clarity, connection, and guidance. Counseling involves exploring yourself in a safe space that includes your perceptions and behaviors, and anything else relevant to the healing process. We can all thrive when provided the appropriate environment, so my primary goal is providing the type of safe space that works best for you.

As a therapist, I work with clients to help manage stress, anxiety , and depression symptoms.
Our mental health is important. Oftentimes, we ignore our needs in pursuit of our goals. We get new jobs, start relationships, relocate, attend school, become care givers, or have children. Transitions are a part of lives and creating new routines are a necessity to managing these changes. Even if the changes are for the better creating new habits can be stressful.

Starting your therapy journey can be anxiety provoking and intimidating. I commend you for taking this important step to show up for yourself. I believe that presenting symptoms are adaptive and protective forms of coping that you have learned over time. We are influenced and impacted by the many contexts in which we live, whether that be familial systems or systems of oppression. Uncovering root causes to symptoms and gently diving deeper into self awareness and understanding of your past and present experiences will be the cornerstone of our time together.

I have 10+ years experience with adults of all ages and with many common struggles including anxiety , depression, complex family dynamics, relationship dynamics, difficult life transitions, and the effects of chronic illness.
I approach clinical work from a trauma-informed perspective and with the idea that the client is the expert on their own life. I am trans and queer-identified, and I am passionate about working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I understand the struggle to find a therapist who can understand one’s community both from professional and personal experience. I also know that both art and therapy can be intimidating and my goal is to provide a space where both feel accessible.

Teletherapy
Teletherapy and Online counseling have grown enormously as a medium for therapy since the advent of social distancing. Most therapists are happy to provide sessions by video or phone.

All professionals are licensed to provide video therapy to clients within the State in which they hold their license. Cross State licensing exists, but is rare.

So if you're a client in Illinois, this list of teletherapists are licensed to provide therapy to you online (by phone, video or text based chat) because they are within your state. They are sorted nearest to furthest, with professionals in Illinois listed first.

Teletherapy via phone or video can be very similar to conventional in person sessions. The message is the same, even if the medium is different. There are some advantages in the form of convenience, lack of travel and being in comfort of your own home. Set against those, professionals find it more difficult to read non-verbal signals of their clients, and you may find you yourself can be more easily distracted.
