I specialize in working with clients who are navigating: neurodivergence, ADHD, ASD, PTSD, LGBTQIA+ and gender nonconforming identities,
depression
, anxiety, and forms of trauma.
The urge to not just exist, but to thrive is universally one of the toughest challenges that one can learn to navigate. It can be even harder when you may not feel equipped with the tools to prepare yourself for this massive endeavor. You may feel the need to mask, or hide your truest self in order to ‘get by’ and make things easier on yourself and others around you. I try to tell clients that they deserve to allow themselves to be the truest version of yourself, no matter what that may look like or what society may think. I am here to help guide you through the veil of uncertainty so that I can help you be your most authentic self.

In therapy, it feels essential to look at not only our own thoughts and emotions but also the expectations set by our environment. I utilize affirmative, trauma-informed, and relational lenses to encourage insight and explore assumptions impacting how we engage with the world around us. My clinical and research focuses relate to sexual identity, gender diversity and transition, and ethically non-monogamous relationships. Aside from these, I work often with anxiety,
depression
, communication, conflict management, boundaries, trauma, life transitions, discrimination, substance use, and premarital/marital counseling.

I believe all clients are experts about their lives. As humans, we all have an innate ability to overcome challenges, which come up daily. I work hard to foster a safe and collaborative space to develop understanding to guide you to identify and discover your strengths to overcome these barriers through a systemic and integrative approach to cultivate change. I believe we live in a multifaceted and fast-paced world which can make it difficult for us to be our authentic selves. I want to help deepen your understanding of who you are through actions, meaning, and emotions, and how you can share yourself with the world.

Issues we work with: Anxiety,
Depression
, Anger Management, LGBTQ+ counseling, Premarital counseling, Trauma/PTSD, Substance Abuse, DUI, Co-occurring disorders, Stress Management, Boundary work, Attachment issues, Infidelity, Adaptive learning, and many more issues that can be discussed during consultation.
At Obsidian Holistic we work from a relational and cultural lense because the people you engage with on a daily basis affect the lense through which you view your world. Those lenses can diminish your ability to cope and form new, stable, and healthy connections, continuing to utilize unhealthy means of solving your dilemmas. The goal of therapy is to guide you in using your innate abilities to develop healthier lenses to view the world and healthy coping mechanisms. Mental Health Services: Individual Therapy, Group Therapy, Life Coaching, Mindfulness Meditation, Reiki, Vibration therapy, Crystal Work, and Cannabis-assisted Therapy.

To me, therapy is a team sport. I'm there to help create a space and relationship where you feel safe exploring the things that are happening in your life. Maybe that thing is identity exploration,
depression
or anxiety that just won't quit, or figuring out how survive and then thrive after a big trauma. All of this is big stuff. I'm here to help you hold it and find a way through it. I have plenty of tools that I can bring to bear (questions, coping skills training, identifying patterns, and reframing situations), but ultimately, my approach centers around you and what you need to be successful, however you define success.

My expertise is in engaging with individuals who are seeking support with anxiety, trauma/vicarious trauma, C-/PTSD,
depression
, grief, relationships, life transitions, and the navigation of oppressive systems and structures.
I approach my work through an integration of trauma-responsive, anti-oppressive, and mindfulness-based practices and lenses. I view therapy as a collaborative process where we work together to build trust and grow insight to support you in developing a deeper understanding of your relationship to yourself, to others, and to the world around you. I consider individuals to be the experts of their experience and see my role in the therapeutic relationship as one of creating a space that is welcoming, affirming, reflective, non-judgmental, curious, and compassionate. I work with both teenagers and adults in individual therapy.

Welcome to a time and a place where you can just be. Where we can greet one another kindly, and be real. Please bring whatever you have: your pain, your joy, your anxiety. The old traumas and the new. We will take care of them. We will sit together in this virtual space, which is lovely and just as relational as being in a physical room together, and heal.

, ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, and open relationships.
Finding a trans affirming or queer affirming therapist can sometimes feel impossible, but I specialize in working with people within both the trans and queer community. Are you struggling with finding a therapist that is affirming or are you feeling like you have to educate your therapist about the experiences you have being queer or trans? Have you been unable to find someone that specializes in working with trans clients? As a trans and queer therapist, I understand these struggles and I dedicate my practice to primarily serving folks in the queer community and specifically trans clients.

How can I find a therapist in Illinois?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
