I have experience working with people experiencing stress, cultural issues, survivors of abuse, grief, and those seeking to heal individual or family trauma .
Have you been through an experience that has made you feel stuck, isolated, or confused? Maybe it has been a traumatic experience, relationship problems, professional challenges, cultural/racial experiences or even every day stress. We often think we have to face these challenges alone and “move on!” Working together, we will work on healing, building healthy skills to cope, and developing healthy patterns that work for you and liberate you from the experiences that may be holding you back.

I am passionately committed to helping people who have experienced trauma , who are struggling to live their fullest, most authentic lives. If that is you, you are a survivor and have possibly been made to feel “less-than.” That might mean you are a person who has experienced interpersonal, combat, or environmental trauma or are a member of the LGBTQ+ community and has experienced the trauma of being “othered.” I will work to help you heal, build resiliency, and recognize your potential. I will help you realize you have the power within yourself to break free from the suffering and grief of trauma and oppression.

How often have people told you how “responsible” or “mature” you were for your age as a child? Maybe you feel highly impacted by others' emotions or reactions. What's it like to consider that these things may have developed as a means to survive chaos, abuse and neglect? We'll work together to embrace what we feel plague us. There's strength and power in all of these things. I work with clients processing childhood trauma + neglect, those looking to improve their relationship with food + their bodies and clients living with intrusive thoughts, panic and obsessive thinking.

I’ve helped countless people build stability in their lives using these proven techniques for anxiety and trauma .
People tell you to “just get over it.” As if you didn’t wish that a thousand times a day. You can white knuckle it for a few days, but the nightmares always return, and it all comes crashing down. Lately, your spouse has been looking at you differently. You wonder how much longer they’ll stick around. You’re desperate to get away from the images in your head, but the memories come flooding back at any moment. The flashes of memory set your hands shaking and make the room spin. You try to block them out by isolating, drinking, and distracting yourself, but you know that’s only a band-aid. You need the memories to stop.

Life is challenging. Nobody rides for free. You’ve been struggling with mood, energy and worry for awhile now (maybe for as long as you can remember). It can be hard to imagine a life without these things present, but I’m here to tell you that things can change, and you don’t need to go through it alone. With the right skills and support, you can build the life you have always wanted and move through the challenges you have experienced.

There are times in life where we all feel overwhelmed. Whether the day to day grind is wearing you down or overwhelming anxiety is making it difficult for you to leave the house, I am here to be on your side. I am a big believer that effective therapy is a collaborative effort between the client and the therapist and that healing is achieved by working together. I take an integrative approach to therapy, where I tailor the therapy to fit the needs of the client. Is addiction, an eating disorder, body image issues or trauma getting in the way of living your best life? Do you feel like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh? Your outlook on life is gloomy at best. Perhaps your food/exercise obsession is out of control. Maybe you’re attracted to risk and, as such, using drugs/alcohol to the point where it's derailing your life. Is shame what controls you? It could be fear getting in your way. Does your stomach ache, your palms sweat, or your anxiety give you that sinking feeling in the bottom of your belly that stops you in your tracks? With all this madness, there’s no time to thrive; merely survive.

My approach is grounded in human capacity for processing trauma , anxiety, depression, and performance blocks.
Many of us lead busy lives with little space to breathe, think, and make choices with clarity. We hold ourselves to unsustainable standards in our careers, relationships and as individuals. We move from day to day with anxious thoughts, or float numbly with disconnection and over-scheduling as a way to avoid pain. Often our expectations, goals and circumstances come at the expense of our own healthy well being.

How can I find a therapist in Illinois?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
