I support individuals, couples, and families around diverse experiences such as issues with substances, depression, anxiety, identity development, and other life challenges. With training in intimate partner violence, unhealthy relationships, and body-based interventions, I take a trauma-informed approach to therapy; ensuring a comfortable environment for clients in which to delve into tough experiences and make changes in life through introspection, understanding, and empowerment.

My philosophy in working with clients is to build a trusting relationship with them by learning about their story - their family's story, their personal story, their triumphs and their challenges. I then work with the client to use their strengths to help them form a new story, a story where they change ingrained habits and live the life they have always dreamed of living. Cuando trabajo, mi filosofía es crear una relación con clientes y escuchar su propia historia. Mi objetivo es ayudarlos a realizar su sueno.

My ideal client is someone who has a foundation of wellness and is looking to bridge the chasm between where they are and where they would like to be. They have self-awareness, motivation, and a support system to aid them in their journey. They are looking to learn and implement sustainable tools, practices, and habits that will embody their authentic truth and enhance their lives as a whole. They are curious and open about alternative and holistic methods of healing. They are willing to lean into fear of walking the unknown path of internal alchemy and evolution, knowing they are the ultimately the one that can heal themselves.

Finding a queer affirming therapist can sometimes feel impossible, but I specialize in working with people within the queer community. I have extensive education and experience working with trauma from my work at a domestic violence shelter, mitigation services within the prison system, homeless youth and adult services, and alcohol and substance use disorder recovery services. You should be able to feel comfortable with your therapist and feel you are being listened to and helped. Making that first call can be the hardest, especially if you have felt you weren’t understood or accepted in the past.

As your therapist, I partner with you in navigating the impacts of both internal and external circumstances on your ability to thrive. I practice client-centered therapy and will assist you in exploring possibilities for taking agency in your own healing. I hope to co-create a space of trust, strength, and possibility that follows your direction, and supports you in clarifying what you want that direction to be. I work with adults, teens, and relationships, and hold a sex positive approach that is inclusive of those who are monogamous, non-monogamous, kink and BDSM, and involved in the sex trade.

As a queer Black person who has done their own healing work, it became my mission to establish the therapeutic space I provide as trauma-informed. As such, I strive toward building a fundamental anti-oppressive space, one where your intersectionalities are respected and your healing is centered. Bringing these intentions to the space I provide makes doing the work that healing requires that much more possible for the communities I serve.

[PLEASE NOTE: I am not currently accepting new clients.] As a queer nonbinary/transgender woman and a survivor, I know how hard it can be to seek desperately needed help, only to be made unwelcome by the very professionals we trust to provide that help. I always strive to meet my clients with openness, respect, and compassion. I believe that therapy should provide a safer space to explore your values and strengths, gain insight into your struggles, and learn new skills for healing, transformation, and liberation.

I enjoy working with people as a guide to the maps of ourselves-- our identities, histories, relationships, politics, traumas, sexualities, all the parts that make up our broken wholes. As a queer person, I tend to work with other people exploring and expanding their sexualities and gender identities. As someone involved in radical politics, I offer validation and therapeutic solidarity to abolitionists and activists across the spectrum of liberation movements. And as a person with mental illness myself, I offer a dignified and person-centered approach to caring for our most sensitive personal issues and life challenges.

I believe that healing from mental illness is a process that takes time, patience, and compassion for yourself. My approach to therapy is that as a client, you should be provided space to guide the work, fostering self-empowerment, identity development, and discovering what will work for you. My goal is to create a partnership with my clients while bringing in my knowledge about psychological care. Currently, I am providing virtual sessions or in person sessions at our Burr Rudge office, and I am accepting clients across the lifespan for trauma disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, and/or preventive care.

Teletherapy
Teletherapy and Online counseling have grown enormously as a medium for therapy since the advent of social distancing. Most therapists are happy to provide sessions by video or phone.

All professionals are licensed to provide video therapy to clients within the State in which they hold their license. Cross State licensing exists, but is rare.

So if you're a client in Illinois, this list of teletherapists are licensed to provide therapy to you online (by phone, video or text based chat) because they are within your state. They are sorted nearest to furthest, with professionals in Illinois listed first.

Teletherapy via phone or video can be very similar to conventional in person sessions. The message is the same, even if the medium is different. There are some advantages in the form of convenience, lack of travel and being in comfort of your own home. Set against those, professionals find it more difficult to read non-verbal signals of their clients, and you may find you yourself can be more easily distracted.
