in Clinical Psychology, I’ve built my career around the idea that improving our environment directly impacts the level of fulfillment we experience.
My clients struggle with navigating internal politics at work, workplace bullying and anxiety, feeling trapped in an unfulfilling career, experiencing write-ups, termination(s), or performance improvement plans (PIPs), lack of self-belief or self-worth, negative relationships with money, and burnout and exhaustion. I also have clients that struggle with organizing, hoarding, and the anxiety that comes along with the attachment we place on our physical things.

Having 3 daughters, all of which have grown up here in the North Shore & have attended the Winnetka Public Schools and New Trier High School, I have a good understanding on how to navigate the different social challenges that come with living in the North Shore area. My experiences are broad and include many things like being a Job Coach, Adjunct Instructor, and School Counselor in both public and private schools. I like to think that I took a meandering path that always included working in the helping profession which I feel most comfortable. I continue to be inspired by everyone I meet with along the way.

Are you struggling with career and job stress? I help academics and other professionals with issues like burnout, imposter syndrome, workplace bullying, and procrastination.
I specialize in providing therapy to academics and to first & second generation immigrants. My style is sympathetic and straight-forward, and I bring a sense of humor, honesty, and compassion to my sessions. I work with adult clients facing loneliness, interpersonal challenges, and life transitions. As an existential therapist I believe no situation is completely hopeless. Questioning something that defines your identity is frightening, whether it is a career, a relationship, your gender, or religious faith. It’s normal to feel stuck or overwhelmed when we are confused or in pain. My role is to walk alongside you.

I identify as a queer person of color and hope to best serve those communities who feel underrepresented in professional fields. Common areas that I work with are trauma, gender identity and expression, career related difficulties, couples/interpersonal relationship issues, and mood/anxiety disorders. I work heavily with the linguistic ways we approach "problems" and through a narrative and solutions focused approach we would work on restoring your sense freedom as you navigate life's difficulties.

In addition to helping people grow in therapy, I’ve been involved with educating and training future psychologists my entire career.
We’re born with innate needs to grow, connect, and find purpose. Our lives shapes how we go about getting these needs met. If we're successful in this, we often feel content and fulfilled. However, sometimes life intervenes in ways that prevent us from successfully getting these needs met and leaves us stuck and suffering. Often, we need help from a supportive professional to help us focus productively on our problems, ease our immediate distress with direction solutions, and help us develop the insights and skills needed for long term growth and fulfillment. I'll work closely with you to help you achieve your specific goals.

Therapy is a healthy resource. Everyone needs an objective, non-judgmental person to talk with in a confidential and warm environment. Sometimes you feel something is not quite right, but you can't put your finger on it. Other times, you know exactly what it is. Either way, telling your story can help figure things out by identifying your patterns of thought, behavior and emotions. Are any of them getting in the way? Together we discover the obstacles to achieving a stronger sense of well-being. Most importantly, we figure out how you can remove obstacles to leading a happier, more authentic life.

How do I know if I need career counseling?

Determining whether a career counselor is needed involves assessing one's current career and identifying what changes can be made to improve one's overall quality of life. In particular, feelings of loss of motivation, fatigue, anxiety, depression, procrastination, or ongoing levels of high stress can all be indicative of a need for career-related counseling. In addition, individuals changing jobs may want the decision-making support or self-reflection opportunities provided by a career counselor.

Who can benefit from career counseling?

Anyone can benefit from the self-reflection, skill development, and stress management techniques that career counseling can provide. However, individuals who are feeling overwhelmed or burnt out with their current job and individuals considering a major career change may particularly benefit from career counseling to improve their wellbeing. Additionally, individuals who are facing issues in their current job, such as coworker relationship challenges or not meeting performance goals, may benefit from the perspective that a career counselor can provide. College-age or young professionals may also uniquely benefit from career counseling as they make key decisions surrounding education and job training that will impact their career trajectory.

How long does career counseling typically last?

The length of career counseling can vary greatly depending on the needs of the individual and what type of support they are seeking. Career coaching or advising services—which serve clients in a specific, goal-oriented capacity—often last for a shorter duration and are sometimes only a single session or a few sessions in length. In contrast, career counseling as part of a more integrative therapeutic relationship with a counselor may last longer, particularly if the issues faced by the client are longstanding and/or more complex in nature; in such cases, individuals may expect therapy to last multiple months or longer.

How to prepare for career counseling?

Clients can prepare for career counseling sessions by outlining the specific topics they would like to address with the counselor, such as current job challenges or hopes for the future of their career. Compiling one's thoughts on such topics often requires reflection on one's career and future goals, which in itself can be beneficial for session preparation. Clients may also want to put together a list of questions they would like to ask the counselor, particularly if the career counselor they are seeing has particular expertise in a given career area. Conducting research into potential future jobs, training opportunities, or support resources in one's area may also help clients prepare for career counseling by providing them with a background of what resources are available in their area.
