I believe that for therapy to be successful there must be a strong therapeutic relationship , one where trust and safety are established, and I understand that it can take some time to build that type of relationship . I provide each client with a warm, nonjudgmental environment where trust and safety are more likely to occur. I believe that we do our best healing when we are ready for it and have the desire to change whatever is no longer serving us. I also believe that we must laugh at ourselves at times, if not often, and I see humor as an important part of therapy and life.

The process of becoming who you want to be is a daunting task. The realities of life and the complexities of our modern world can be overwhelming, and seeking help can bring its own form of stress. But here you are, pushing forward! My counseling practice is grounded in the idea that you are not the problem, the problem is the problem. You and I will work together to examine your relationship with the problem and break down what sustains it. We’ll find those moments in which you transcend, and we’ll consider what this might mean for you as you write the next chapters of your life.

It is important that the foundation of the relationship with the self and others is based on trust, acceptance, and genuine regard as such the relationship between client and counselor is paramount to facilitating growth.
I believe that we all have an inherent ability to heal deeply, oftentimes we just need a safe environment to begin to open and step on this healing journey. When we realize that disoriented parts of ourselves cause imbalance and problems, the awareness itself leads the way to becoming whole and come home to ourselves. As we move through the story of life in time and space, we carry the past to the present and the present to the future. Our bodies – physical and subtle hold so much of our stories beneath the surface. My goal, using somatic-based approaches, is to help you reattune to our existential wisdom and bring lasting change.

I specialize in Couples Intensives, like a weekend retreat just for you, where couples deep-dive into their relationship , gain skills, and reconnect.
All people have THAT moment. The big one, where we question if we are with the right person. We find ourselves loving someone, but falling into a pattern that we can't find our way out of. Communication, betrayals, falling out of sync, the fights that lead nowhere, someone shutting down, lack of emotional or physical intimacy, or not seeing eye to eye on important issues are all reasons people can benefit from an intensive look into their relationship . You want your person to be "your" person again. To love openly with affection, but also with the ability to resolve conflicts is what I wish for each couple I work with.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
