I specialize in ADHD , anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, self-esteem issues, family concerns, peer relationships, executive functioning skills and coping strategies. I take a holistic approach and often will assess and make recommendations for lifestyle changes. I work primarily with adolescents, families and adults. With over 10 years of experience working with children, adolescents, individuals and families, I have found that there is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy.

My areas of expertise and interests include ADHD , anxiety, depression and stress.
I have helped adolescents and adults deal with major life issues in university, school, business, community, and hospital settings. I have been fortunate to have had full-time commitments on the counseling staff at Northwestern University, serving as the director during my final eight of fifteen years, and retiring after 28 years as a professor in the graduate program of Counselor Education at Northeastern Illinois University, educating and training master's level counselors in clinical and school settings. During those years, I continued working with outside consulting and private practice, but, now, focus on clinical practice.

Much of my work involves helping children and adults manage the daily hindrances of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
There are times in our lives when we face problems that can overburden us with distress and discontent. These can include struggles with troubling moods and emotions such as depression, anxiety, anger and self-doubt; challenges navigating our roles and relationships as parents, partners and professionals; and difficulties adjusting to life-altering events such as a death, a divorce, or a major transition. I specialize in family-focused counseling aimed at helping children, adolescents, adults, and couples to address these concerns in ways that lead them to cope more skillfully, connect more positively, and live more hopefully.

I provide art therapy and counseling specializing in anxiety, depression, coping skills, sensory processing issues, disabilities, ADHD , life transitions and stressors, and expressive art experiences and collaborations.
Life is filled with sorrow and joy, frustration and wonder, stagnation and growth, obstacles and openings. At times, our skill set and resources are not optimal for helping us adapt to the shifts and movement in our lives. I believe that art therapy and counseling can support understanding of our skills and resources that better equip us to adapt to life's changes. Art therapy allows opportunities to imagine the best, healthiest version of ourselves and permit clarifying moments where we perceive possibility and potential. My goal is to support clients in becoming active agents in developing positive, purposeful ideas towards wellness and good health.

I specialize in working with adults, young adults, and adolescents who are struggling with eating disorders and body image, depression, anxiety, ADHD , life transitions, relationship issues and sexual identity.
My first goal in the therapeutic process is to create a trusting, safe and collaborative relationship. Through active exploration, it is my hope that you will uncover insight into thoughts, emotions and behavior that will empower and support you in transforming your life. I recognize the difficulty of developing and maintaining a sense of self that reflects a value of inner worth rather than outer societal or familial ideals and expectations. My intention is for you to become the person you really are and from that place, make choices leading you towards a greater sense of wholeness, peace and well-being.

I use mindfulness techniques and cognitive-behavioral approaches in working with patients. That being said, every person is unique and treatment should not be "one size fits all". I believe that it's vitally important that treatment techniques are tailored to the individual patient and the problems he or she wants to work on. I have extensive experience treating patients with a variety of anxiety disorders, depression and mood disorders, adult ADD , adjustment disorders and stress related problems. The core of my approach is to help people unleash their own inner motivation for change. I work with adults and teens.

ADHD Therapists
Some children and adults with ADHD find it difficult to concentrate on tasks at school or work and may daydream frequently. Children with ADHD may become disruptive, defiant, or have trouble getting along with parents, peers, or teachers. Children who struggle with hyperactivity and impulsivity, in particular, often have behavioral challenges that can be difficult for adults to manage. Adults, on the other hand, may be more likely to report feeling restless or fidgety; if they struggle with impulsivity, they may make rash decisions that adversely affect their life. For both children and adults, executive functioning (planning, emotional regulation, and decision-making) is often affected as well. Many children and adults display either hyperactive or inattentive symptoms of ADHD, but it’s also possible for both sets of symptoms to exist together, in what is typically called combined type ADHD.
