Life is messy and sometimes it is too much to do it all alone. Therapy can be a great space for you to explore your life’s challenges and come up with ways to bounce back with clarity and resilience. While the process of seeking therapy can be intimidating it can also be empowering and worthwhile investment for your overall wellbeing.

I also provide support for those having difficulties in marital and family relationships, and can help with
infidelity
and addictions.
There are times when we struggle with an issue and need someone to encourage and help us. Sometimes we need to tell just one other person something we have done or been through. And once in a while our wheels come off, and we need serious support and help. It is very important to me that you feel safe when you come into my office, and that you are heard when it comes to the issues you are facing. I want you to feel you won't be judged and hopeful that true healing can occur.

infidelity
, and with individuals going through life transitions or with issues of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, sexual addictions or trauma.
Everyone wants to know that they matter and that they have worth. Sometimes life gets in the way and interferes with our ability to tap into our sense of belonging and being accepted as we are. Helping clients navigate through life issues and challenges and healing the deeper wounds that affect our day to day functioning is a passion of mine. What does it mean to be "healthy and whole"? Discovering this and working toward healing and thriving where you are at is a rewarding experience!

At The Marriage Clinic of DuPage we have been saving and strengthening marriages for over 30 years. We understand how hard it is for partners to feel alone in a relationship that was once so close, or to feel they are always letting their partner down or not good enough no matter what they do. We also know how difficult it is for couples who feel they constantly fight with each other, sometimes over seemingly small things or having the same fights over and over.

I enjoy treating individuals who feel "stuck" in their lives. There are many obstacles in life that create dismay and life dissatisfaction including phase of life issues, grief and loss, issues with intimacy and attachment, career dissatisfaction, unresolved family of origin issues and impulsive/compulsive coping behaviors to name a few. I enjoy helping people getting back to thriving and feeling generally content with themselves and their lives.

I get deep satisfaction from working with couples, using best practices from training in Emotionally Focused Therapy to recreate emotional connection. I also am trained in using EMDR to help individuals experience relief from the burden of traumatic experiences. Another specialty is Discernment Counseling, a discipline in which I am fully certified and which offers couples an opportunity to gain clarity about whether they remain married, continue as they are for the time being, or commit to the challenging work of couples therapy.

Even after nearly 40 years as a therapist, each time I begin to work with people I feel as though I am walking on holy ground. Each person who comes to me willing to be vulnerable and open to the change necessary to bring about greater relational happiness and deeper personal awareness is treated with profound respect. Therapy takes courage to face that part of ourselves that may be limiting or sabotaging our relational and personal growth.

Infidelity Therapists
How does therapy for infidelity work?
A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.
How long does therapy for infidelity take?
Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.
How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?
When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.
How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?
Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
