Dig within. Within is the wellspring of Good; and it is always ready to bubble up, if you just dig.” Marcus Aurelius. I've been fortunate enough to witness the ability that psychotherapy has to reflect a clear and uplifting view of your true self. Our emotions are deep, complex, and often misunderstood. By safely building meaningful context around your emotions, thoughts, and experiences, you understand yourself more clearly. This understanding leads to a freedom to pursue a life and future that makes you truly happy.

My ideal client is an adult who carries a lot internally—someone who appears steady or composed but feels overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to articulate what’s happening inside. They may rely on thinking rather than feeling, overanalyze situations, or repeat emotional patterns without knowing why. They want clarity and depth, not quick fixes. Their goal is to understand themselves more fully, improve their relationships, and feel more grounded and authentic in their daily lives.

We often think of ourselves as what we are given, but instead it's what we make of what we're given. I am guided by a view of identity as a creative narrative and see distress as often occurring when we feel stuck in that creation, bound to selves and lives that aren't working. The goal in therapy is not only to understand how and why we got stuck, but to reengage with our creative and imaginative selves, allowing us to explore new facets of ourselves and experiment with new ways of being. In many ways, we reduce suffering by reintroducing play in our worlds.

There are times when balance feels lost. Challenges come from many angles and catch us off guard, even when we are prepared. We adjust as best as we can but, change can be difficult, whether its small change or traumatic things that happen in our lives. I work with clients to adjust to even the most difficult changes in a collaborative approach. Starting therapy should not have the stigma of weakness. I have many years of helping people with relationship issues and trauma and I provided a safe non judgmental environment to explore and be heard.

Our perspective is that everyone's life has a story, and therapy is a way to identify and change that story to fit with your goals and values. Seeking therapy can be difficult, and we enjoy supporting people in finding their narrative and re-writing it the way they desire to fit their needs. As strength-based and client-centered therapists, we believe that meeting people where they are enables them to feel at ease and supported in the process. Helping others identify their innate strengths and using them is a large part of my philosophy. We are an anti racist practice and pride ourselves on being able to serve BIPOC populations.

Life can be overwhelming, and even though people are resilient, sometimes we need extra support get through the overwhelming parts. A therapist can be that extra support: a resource that helps you surpass your struggles, in part, by recognizing and using your own strengths. You may feel weighed down with traumatic experiences from your past. You may feel a lack of control in your life. You may be surrounded by feelings of isolation, fear, guilt, anger, or shame. You deserve to live a life that includes joy, agency, connection, and to be free of your past trauma. Together, you and I can help you find healing.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
