I have over 6+ years of experience working with dual-diagnosis clients and helping people find their own inner light amidst the darkness of depression,
trauma
, anxiety and loss.
We all have the capacity within us to effect positive change in our lives, but sometimes we get “stuck” in vicious cycles. In these times we may need additional guidance and support in order to get through some of the things life has thrown our way. If you are here, it means you are at least considering making those changes. I utilize an integrative, harm-reduction approach which draws on the unique strengths of each individual as the key to narrating their own healing process. I enjoy working with a wide variety of clients, but specialize in adult and young adult populations.

Not feeling like yourself lately? Unexpected sadness, excessive worrying, unexplained anger, unresolved
trauma
? Maybe it's been going on for a couple of weeks or even a couple of months. You want to talk to someone, but are having a difficult time finding the right person in your family or friend group. Don't continue to bottle your feelings and let them build up until they explode in an unhealthy manner. Seeking help through therapy can be the first step to taking back control of your life.

I am passionate about working with children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced
trauma
, as well as every day life stressors.
I believe that we are not defined by our darkest moments or a point in a time, but rather by the ways we choose to overcome them. When you're ready, we'll unpack your history or past traumas, exploring how and why you're currently struggling, embrace difficult emotions, and empower you to make change outside of our sessions. You won't find homework or a specific agenda with no room for conversation, or a cold and rigid presence from me. Although therapy can be hard and bring up many feelings, there will always be time to celebrate your wins and laugh about about the everyday, humorous parts of our lives.

Trauma
can make you feel like someone has robbed you of your innocence, purpose, sense of belonging, your voice, and ability to feel safe in your own body. You might be searching for a sense of control, but feeling completely powerless. You escape into activities or relationships in order to feel anything at all and other times to make the feelings stop all together. You may have developed parts of yourself in order to survive, but what would life look like if you could shed old scripts and truly live a life that’s worth living?

Life situations can promote depression, anxiety, unhealthy relationships, and self-destructive behaviors. Transitions, grief and loss, or anger issues might be a factor in your not having the life you'd like to currently lead. My goal is to work with individuals and couples exploring problematic areas causing concern in order to build self esteem and promote a sense of well-being. Respectfully, I will meet you wherever you are at in your life in a non-judgmental setting, walking with you through the stage of change.

When people first come in to see me, they are often anxious, depressed or scared. They may feel confused or uncertain about the future. Coping skills that used to work "OK" no longer seem to be sufficient. Some people can point to a specific cause or event, but others find it difficult to identify or talk about underlying concerns - particularly if they have endured a
trauma
. Therapy offers a warm, safe and compassionate space for exploration of feelings that can be too difficult or too heavy to hold by one's self.

I am trained in EMDR which is often incorporated into my work with various types of
trauma and PTSD
.
Relationship is key in the therapeutic process for both myself and the client. But to get there, a relationship has to first be established on trust, honesty, and authenticity. Sometimes finally being able to identify the issue and putting it into words prompts a deeper healing. Other times therapy helps explore beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that were previously unexamined.
Each person's path in this process will be different, but they are all rooted in a deep and meaningful connection within the counseling process. I will offer empathy, a non-judgemental listening ear and insight to our work together.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
