Between work obligations, the teachers calling your phone, and co- parenting concerns, you don’t know what to do.
Something feels off. You can’t quite put your finger on it; but some “shit” feels weird. You don’t feel like you can trust people so you isolate yourself from others because being fake feels phony to you. You are tired of fighting; but you can’t give up because there is a constant thought in your head “Who is going to take care of my child(ren)?” Nobody. So, you shake it off and keep pretending like everything is fine.

I specialize in working with women on a variety of women issues such as, fertility issues, divorce and separation, parenting issues, grief and loss and life transitions.
Taking the step to enter therapy can be a difficult decision. While many people feel weak when having to begin therapy, I see it as a strength. Being able to acknowledge that life has become overwhelming and extra support is needed, exhibits courage. Coming from a strengths based perspective, I believe everyone has the qualities to set and achieve goals and live a fulfilling life. Together we can develop effective coping skills to manage life's stressors.

We work with a diversity of people, all ages, who deal with a variety of life stressors. Job/school stress, mounting anxiety, persistent sadness, parent -child problems, divorce, panic, LGBTQ concerns, life transition, and grief and loss are among the issues we most commonly work with. Our approach to therapy is first to really understand you as an individual - your goals, your areas of concern, your family, your job environment, etc. Sometimes, we find diagnostic tools helpful in clarifying issues and generating therapy goals. We work to hear and understand your needs so together we can improve the problems.

Not feeling like yourself lately? Unexpected sadness, excessive worrying, unexplained anger, unresolved trauma? Maybe it's been going on for a couple of weeks or even a couple of months. You want to talk to someone, but are having a difficult time finding the right person in your family or friend group. Don't continue to bottle your feelings and let them build up until they explode in an unhealthy manner. Seeking help through therapy can be the first step to taking back control of your life.

As a professional counselor I seek to work with individuals in a non-judgmental, understanding and compassionate manner. I hope to assist people to bring about choice and empowerment that they may feel is not possible. Life can be difficult but help is out there and available. I do tend to take a reality based and person centered approach within my sessions, however every person is an individual and therefore my interventions will be tailored to that particular person. I specialize in working with depression and every day issues that bring anxiety or despair to a person.

Sometimes we don't know what we want in life, we just know we want something different! Are there parts of your life that have become unmanageable or difficult and want some professional feedback? Have you thought your life would be different than what it is? To meet the changing demands of our lives we must find ways to grow and change because life is a series of transitions. It turns out we can find new and exciting parts of ourselves as we go through these life challenges and changes. Loss and adversity is a part of life, but it can be the architecture for a better life, it just depends how we view it and use it!

I believe that we are not defined by our darkest moments or a point in a time, but rather by the ways we choose to overcome them. When you're ready, we'll unpack your history or past traumas, exploring how and why you're currently struggling, embrace difficult emotions, and empower you to make change outside of our sessions. You won't find homework or a specific agenda with no room for conversation, or a cold and rigid presence from me. Although therapy can be hard and bring up many feelings, there will always be time to celebrate your wins and laugh about about the everyday, humorous parts of our lives.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
