Much of my work involves helping children and adults manage the daily hindrances of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
There are times in our lives when we face problems that can overburden us with distress and discontent. These can include struggles with troubling moods and emotions such as depression, anxiety, anger and self-doubt; challenges navigating our roles and relationships as parents, partners and professionals; and difficulties adjusting to life-altering events such as a death, a divorce, or a major transition. I specialize in family-focused counseling aimed at helping children, adolescents, adults, and couples to address these concerns in ways that lead them to cope more skillfully, connect more positively, and live more hopefully.

I specialize in working with adults, young adults, and adolescents who are struggling with eating disorders and body image, depression, anxiety, ADHD , life transitions, relationship issues and sexual identity.
My first goal in the therapeutic process is to create a trusting, safe and collaborative relationship. Through active exploration, it is my hope that you will uncover insight into thoughts, emotions and behavior that will empower and support you in transforming your life. I recognize the difficulty of developing and maintaining a sense of self that reflects a value of inner worth rather than outer societal or familial ideals and expectations. My intention is for you to become the person you really are and from that place, make choices leading you towards a greater sense of wholeness, peace and well-being.

I have provided behavioral healthcare services across the lifespan and have worked on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, immigration and acculturation issues, LGBTQIA+ and other marginalized communities, burnout, job stress, trauma, substance abuse, eating disorder, ADHD , ODD, relationship problems, and women's issues.
My ideal client is someone looking for a therapist who is going to partner with them for change - not just give advice and "chit chat" for an hour. I understand that clients come to me feeling "stuck" and often "hopeless." I believe that by carefully assessing your presenting problems, identifying barriers to success and helping you devise a concrete and realistic plan of action, I can help you get on the road to recovery. My clients come from all walks of life but I am especially passionate about working with immigrant and minority groups and am passionate about social justice and equality in behavioral healthcare.

Life challenges can feel overwhelming, especially when it feels like our world has been turned upside down. Sometimes, a sudden event occurs-such as a new medical diagnosis or relationship loss-which disrupts our life and creates uncertainty. Even expected transitions can bring unexpected reactions. For example, a new baby, job, or move to a new city can bring excitement yet leave us feeling out of sorts. Ongoing concerns can also feel unsettling. Struggling with chronic health difficulties, depression, anxiety, ADHD , or feeling like we are not where we want to be can significantly impact our quality of life.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
