My name is Hilary Kohs, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been a mental health therapist since 2003. I received my Bachelor’s in Science degree for Psychology in 1997 from Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois. I received my Master’s degree in Social Work in 2003 from University of Illinois in Chicago, Jane Addams College of Social Work. I have been working as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 20 years helping clients ages 6-96 with issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, parenting issues, anger management, bi-polar disorder, and a variety of other mental health issues.

Welcome! I am excited to share my passion and expertise working with college students, mid-life through geriatric age, professionals working in academic settings, and couples. My knowledge and understanding of diversity, inclusiveness, and equality are readily incorporated into my therapeutic practice. I work with individuals struggling with PTSD, anxiety/depression, grief & loss, mood disorders, chronic emotional illness, addiction/chemical substances, chronic pain, eating disorders, sexual abuse/trauma, and sleep disturbances. I also enjoy working with biracial / multicultural folx and parents with biracial kids.

When your child or teen needs support it's important to find the right fit for them. They need to be comfortable with a therapist and you as a caregiver should feel confident with that provider as well. I have worked with children, adolescents and adults on a variety of issues they may be struggling with. Depression, family or marital stress, behavioral issues, lack of motivation or school refusal, healthy relationships, excessive anxiety and self-esteem are common struggles people may tackle through therapy. Additionally, I work with the LGBTQ community including teens with gender identity issues.

Everyone has the potential to unlock who they want to become and achieve a balanced life. If this is your first time seeking a therapist or if you have been in therapy before, I find ways to help client's feel comfortable to be able to speak freely to reach their goals. Having experience in working with children and adults in different capacities over my career, it has become my desire to help those I work with find their own potential and assist in empowerment. I have an extensive background in woking with those with a variety of mental health issues in the community mental health setting and hospital setting.

I am a licensed social worker who has experience working with individuals in multiple different settings including: residential, juvenile justice, education, non-profit, and private practice. As a social worker, I aim to work with each and every individual to create a professional team relationship, where the client is able to grow and enjoy speaking with a therapist to overcome any and all barriers in life. Throughout my experience I have worked with adults with mental disabilities, children and young adults in the juvenile system, essential workers, and individuals who are experiencing the challenges of everyday life.

I am a client-centered clinician that focuses my work on children, adolescents and young adults. I have worked with clients in a variety of settings, including a community mental health center, private practice, and an emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence. I have a strong passion for the intersection of mental health and community advocacy.

In a world of uncertainty and constant negativity, you might be feeling many emotions that you really are not used to. Anger, depression, anxiety, stress, isolation, and loneliness are just a small amount of these feelings that you may have, and I am here to help! Everyone struggles - myself, you, your child, heck even your pet can seem ‘off’ some days (my cats show endless amounts of expression). I work best with nerds, whether you’re 5 or 50! I’ve dealt with bullies and being outcasted personally due to my quirks so if you need help with communication, self-expression, or have ‘specific’ stuff (you know what I mean), I’m your guy!

You know exactly what to do. You have read, researched, tried every diet or new "healthy lifestyle" change or workout program that promised results. Maybe you even do things perfectly all day long, but then, you find yourself elbows deep in the second row of the new pack of cookies you swore you would not touch because it's for your spouse/partner/coworkers/kids/etc. Then, the shame spiral hits and at least once you think to yourself "Eff it, I will try it again tomorrow" or worse "Welp, looks like I failed again". That's where I come in. As a licensed mental health counselor and a nutritionist, I create a tailored plan to help.

I have been been a licensed practicing Clinical Psychologist since 2007. I have a vast amount of experience in treating mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, and thought disorders. I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I understand the importance of a strong therapeutic rapport and conduct treatment in a warm, compassionate, supportive, and professional manner utilizing CBT and DBT techniques to address my clients’ needs.

I specialize in a variety of issues, but overall, I want to help you feel better. Mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually - feeling better about yourself, others, life choices and circumstances, etc. or needing a push to make a change. I am here. It is important to remember that working on your own mental health is a PROCESS and asking for help or guidance along the way is perfectly okay! Depression, anxiety, stress management, relationship issues, grief counseling, acceptance of change or situations -- these are normal things that happen in our lives and I would love to get the opportunity to work through them with you.
