I want to help children, adolescents, adults, and their families learn to understand and cope with the problems that they are currently experiencing. I view people as individuals and am interested in a multifaceted treatment approach, including consultation with psychiatrists/physicians, schools, and other specialities. I utilize an ecletic therapy approach, including CBT and EFT. My predoctoral training was at a specialty hospital working with all ages suffering from brain injury and/or complex medical disorders. I also have experience working with adolescents and their families in crisis.

Many individuals find that words alone do not allow them to fully express how they feel. Using an integrative approach, I provide counseling services through traditional talk therapy while also offering art therapy to enhance the therapeutic process. Art therapy provides alternative means for self-expression by using creativity to access different areas of the brain than those used for speaking.
Getting to know a patient in therapy is an adventure. It’s a journey that often starts at the time of the initial phone conversation. At times, the road takes us through peaks and valleys, neither side predicted. My counseling philosophy is based on the idea that connection is the most important factor in healing. I use my personality, mind, and spirit to understand the needs of my clients. These instruments encourage building a relationship in which we can collaborate to reach goals.

I've worked in the mental health field since 1980. I look at therapy as a collaborative enterprise between client and therapist, with the aim of improving quality of life. I value a gentle, accepting way of looking at life problems, with an emphasis on understanding, rather than judging or condemning, oneself and others. I value curiosity as a valuable asset in the therapeutic process and I enjoy working with clients who can be curious about themselves and their lives. I work with the client to identify new skills, behaviors, or attitudes that can facilitate desired changes.
My ideal client is the individual adolescent, individual adult or family system facing challenging experiences and needing skilled guidance getting back to homeostasis. Homeostasis are the needed variables that help regulate the individual and or family system toward stability. I encourage clients to form an alliance with me, allowing safe, and vulnerable therapeutic experiences to occur . Once our alliance is safely formed, we will work interactively, to gain understanding, develop skills and revisit challenges. Challenges that are safely exposed, processed and skillfully revisited, allow self-awareness and self - acceptance to become incorporated into the whole self, increasing the quality of ones' life.
I believe that therapy can be beneficial to anyone. My approach to therapy utilizes my knowledge and understanding of the therapeutic process in order to help facilitate personal growth. Throughout my academic and professional career I have continued to focus on the art and science of therapy as it relates to helping my clients make meaningful and long lasting change.
You deserve to smile, laugh, and not be held back by the pain of your past. If you feel like you've lost control of your life or who you used to be, I'd love to help you take back the reigns and help you feel more like yourself or maybe an even better version of yourself! Whether you are struggling with trauma from your past, depression, or anxiety, I want to help assist you in the process towards healing. While it may be difficult, the truth is that it’s never too late to find healing and move forward. You can be confident, strong, and proud of the person you are!
My primary clinical interests involve adults and couples with presenting problems that may include depression, anxiety, work stress, post-traumatic stress, panic attacks, couples/marital issues, intimacy, shyness, low self-esteem, domestic violence and developmental issues of adulthood. I often ask people..."who was there for you early in life, who believed in you, took an interest in you, or looked out for you?" Many don't believe anyone was there, in which case there may be feelings of emptiness or loss. Wise intervention can help to give insight resulting in direction and purpose in their lives.

I've found that creating a safe non-judgemental space has empowered my clients to regain control of their lives. My clients come from all walks of life. Each with their own unique experiences.
I am dedicated to providing my clients a safe and supportive environment so that the process of change and growth begins. I encourage my clients to engage in self-exploration so that they will come to a deeper understanding of themselves. Together we will identify healthier ways to cope with the thoughts, feelings and life circumstances that are causing you discomfort.
