I write and lead workshops on parenting, marriage , self-awareness, and effectiveness.
All good psychotherapy has these elements in common: the presence of empathy; a process for self-examination; tools for healing and change; and support during the process of change. Whether the focus of therapy is improving marriage , negotiating a family problem, facing addiction, healing trauma, or controlling anxiety or depression symptoms, clients deserve empathic, respectful support in increasing their self-understanding and in changing their lives. People seek therapy because they need understanding, help, and relief--the relief that comes from immediate attention to their suffering, and relief that comes from beginning to hope for a more peaceful, joyful life.

I also provide support for those having difficulties in marital and family relationships, and can help with infidelity and addictions.
There are times when we struggle with an issue and need someone to encourage and help us. Sometimes we need to tell just one other person something we have done or been through. And once in a while our wheels come off, and we need serious support and help. It is very important to me that you feel safe when you come into my office, and that you are heard when it comes to the issues you are facing. I want you to feel you won't be judged and hopeful that true healing can occur.

I work with people looking to move beyond roadblocks in their lives. These roadblocks can be as straightforward as learning how to manage anxiety or depression, or as complex as figuring out how to thrive or survive in an important relationship that's currently under stress. While many clients seek help with specific problems such as marriage , parenting, maneuvering workplace dynamics, or getting through specific crises, others are trying to find ways to overcome personal hurdles in their lives and move beyond their own self-perceived limitations. Whatever the concern, we tackle it together and develop a plan for moving forward.

I believe that people are, by our very nature, social beings. We all understand that there are trials and tribulations throughout our lives. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, marital strife, and other mental health concerns can arise even in the strongest of people and relationships. I utilize empathic listening and other skills to foster a safe, respectful, and caring environment for all my clients. In doing so, I hope my clients can safely explore the strength and resilience within themselves. I hope to help my clients grow and realize their potentials so as to be better equipped for life's journey.

I also have extensive experience in trauma-related issues, addictive behavior/substance abuse issues, marriage and family therapy, grief and loss, and dementia.
The constant pressures of daily life, particularly during a pandemic, can leave us feeling overwhelmed, scared, and alone. As we try to navigate our way through issues involving school, work, relationships, life transitions, and grief and loss, we may feel so hopeless that we feel as if we cannot go on like this anymore. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I will provide support and guidance to help you identify unhealthy thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that you can make positive and sustainable changes to improve your quality of life.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
