After 10 years in marketing, I pursued my calling to work with individuals, couples and families as they re-imagine their lives and relationships. Together, we address concerns like anxiety, chronic illness, grief , marital issues and family conflict. I also work with postpartum depression including traumatic births and parents of children with special needs. I know that taking a step into the unknown can be scary and overwhelming, but I believe that beginning this journey will change your life.

I have over 30 years of clinical experience working with adults, adolescents, the LGBTQ community and also specialize in couples and family therapy. My areas of particular interest include relationship challenges, depression, anxiety, grief , post-traumatic stress disorder, sexual abuse, and addiction. I believe it's important to work openly with issues of faith and spirituality as they naturally emerge during the process of therapy. I value kindness, openness, curiosity and humor as these qualities shape my approach to both therapy and life.

Experiences of grief and loss occur throughout the life span. The response to these experiences is unique and personal. I believe everyone has a story which is important to tell. As a therapist I work to create a trusting environment in which to tell that story. It is in the understanding of the story one can discover solutions to problems, acceptance of the past and hope for the future.

I specialize in the things that interfere with our lives, our relationships, our work, and our play; things known as anxiety, depression, self-loathing, conflict, doubt, loneliness, loss .

What I do know, is that I am willing to work with you to change the course of the next chapter of your life. I know that I truly appreciate the uniqueness of your life story. I know I want to help you meet YOUR goals, not the goals someone else has for you. I know that together we could create something different if you are tired of every day being the same.

I have experience in the areas of depression/anxiety, shame, self-worth issues, eating disorders, co-dependency, grief / loss , spiritual development and the role that has in healing.
I enjoy helping those on a journey toward better self-awareness around their emotional life, satisfaction in relationships, and getting through what seems stuck. Counseling is a place to feel safe to explore difficult relationships or past or current trauma. I want my clients to feel advocated for, and to find a deeper understanding of self and gain insight into how our past affects present relationships and struggles. Finding your true-self is so important. Skill building and assertiveness training are also a part of the therapy I do. My experience for the last 22 years has been in individual therapy with kids, teens, and adults.

I understand firsthand how loss , mental health, and addiction can affect every aspect of a person’s life, including their narrative as I was forced to reevaluate my own narrative when I lost a child to suicide.
Making the decision to seek help can be a monumental task and selecting the right therapist can be challenging. I can provide you with a therapeutic relationship that will feel safe and collaborative so that it can serve as the basis for healing. My goal is to work with you in assessing your strengths, exploring challenges, working to overcome barriers, and returning you to a peaceful and productive state. I will work with you to create a treatment plan that suits your personality and needs. Sometimes, all you need are the right words at the right time to change how you see the world…including yourself.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
