I have experience working with children as young as four years old, adolescents, adults, couples, and families and have a strong tie to the systems dynamic in my clinical work. I work with clients experiencing a wide variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, relational problems, social isolation and bullying, family and parent-child conflict, school concerns, and a multitude of other presenting issues. I work from a compassionate, strengths-based approach and promote positive, healthy change through self-advocacy. Working from a systemic perspective with individuals, couples, and families allows me to assist my clients in actualizing the change they wish to see in their lives. In addition, I promote the process of change through differentiation of self and gaining an understanding of how individuals work and function within a system. I recently underwent a training in the Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies through the Trauma Center at JRI and have also received training to become a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I recently attended the Childhood Trauma Symposium to increase my efforts in being an effective trauma-informed clinician.

I specialize in working with children and families who are struggling with challenging behaviors and negative parent-child interactions at home. I also work with children who are struggling with feelings of anxiety and worry. The goals of children and families I work with are to develop more positive ways of interacting with each other and to support positive child development. I typically work with both the parents and the child to support more positive interactions and to improve family and school functioning.

Are you feeling lost in this ever changing world/environment? Do you struggle to find your joy? Or are you a family member seeking problem-solving for family dynamics or behavior concerns. Do you feel lost dealing with school issues with your child. Or maybe you are going through serious life transitions in a boat with no oar. I can help provide a new perspective, perhaps point out roads not yet taken by you. My counseling does not fit in a box. I consider many angles. The most important fact is where the client is emotionally and intellectually. This should not be a scary experience, rather comforting and supportive.

Starting therapy can be a big step for many people. Searching for a therapist can be overwhelming, and it's hard to know which therapist will be the right fit. We are passionate about helping you become free from the barriers that hold you back from experiencing a fulfilling and meaningful life and becoming your authentic self. These barriers may be due to anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationships, life transitions, or maybe just a general sense of feeling stuck in life and a desire for something to change.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
