At Relate Psychological Services, I work with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, loss, role transitions, romantic and interpersonal relationship difficulties, and family of origin issues.
Now Accepting new clients (daytime hours 12pm-5pm). As humans, we experience an endless amount of transitions, highs, and lows that cumulatively come to define who we are. In this process, we may find ourselves struggling with anxiety, depression, and fear of the unknown. In an effort to cope with these challenges, we often develop patterns of thinking and behaving that don't serve us or honor our unique strengths and resiliency. In my practice, I work with individuals to create meaning from difficult experiences and to develop coping strategies that allow them to live with a greater sense of peace, personal power, and authenticity.

Wonder if you or your child would benefit from a parenting consultation, tele-therapy sessions, coping skill-building work, or other specialized care? We can explore this together and co-create a plan so you and your family get through this challenge.
You want to reach your optimal level of emotional and interpersonal well-being: In other words, you want to feel better. But, managing chronic health conditions, feeling overwhelmed by high levels of stress and anxiety, and facing unexpected and sudden loss/grief can be enormous tasks, especially during our challenging times. Across the lifespan, we face emotional, relational, and physical difficulties that are often best navigated when we are heard, supported, and able to cultivate a natural curiosity that invites us to change

I also specialize in the challenges of parenthood (especially of men becoming fathers) and how " family of origin" issues are transmitted from one generation to the next.
I see adults for both individual and couple's therapy addressing many common areas of concern, including: stress; anxiety; depression; relationship issues; intimacy & communication; self-esteem & identity issues; work & life satisfaction; meaning & purpose; and general unhappiness. My style is direct and collaborative. I use a flexible approach that is adapted to each individual or couple. My approach is especially effective at getting to the root of issues, sorting through the conflict and confusion, and portraying what the trouble is in a clear new light.

As a child/adolescent, individual, couple, and family therapist , I use a strengths-based and relational approach to identify the emotional and behavioral change that you want to see within your life.
If you’re struggling to cope with past traumas, I can help you identify how this is showing up in your present and offer the tools that will create the path to your desired future. Trauma impedes our natural ability as humans to be able to identify and reach goals, and connect and form relationships with others. I know that this can all be worked through with a positive therapeutic relationship and guidance to rediscovering the inner knowing you possess about what you truly need to thrive. My personal approach to therapy is what allows for others to connect with me- I am laid-back, direct, funny, caring, and non-judgement.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist , with experience working with Individuals, Couples, and Families, I approach my work from a systemic and integrative perspective.
*No Current Availability* To seek therapy takes courage and curiosity. The process of therapy gives us the opportunity to explore the impact of the multiple systems with which we are connected- family , work, home, friends, community- in the context of an affirming relationship with the therapist. Through this process, we come to better understand how we have interacted with these systems over time, the strategies we have developed to navigate them successfully, and how these systems have impacted us, contributing to both opportunities and challenges.

They can manifest as anxiety, depression, feelings of emptiness, confusion, nightmares, substance abuse and family /relationship issues.
I have been working for over 20 years as a therapist and utilize the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle for change- this remains the bedrock of my work. As a result, if the client does not feel we are the right fit on the first session I do not charge the client for the initial visit. I feel it is important for my clients to determine if I am the right fit for him/her.

We all feel sad, stressed, or anxious at times. That's a normal part of life to me. But if these feelings are interfering with personal and family relationships, work, or your feelings of self-confidence, counseling can help you find a more satisfying path. Especially since the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic, mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, and stress, have worsened. You may have increased your use of substances, hoping that they will help relieve your symptoms, only to find that they have made matters worse. Recognizing that you need outside assistance can be difficult.

I employ an integrative approach which incorporates advances in brain science, relational theories, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, and family systems.
On the journey throughout the lifespan, we inevitably encounter challenges and obstacles along our way. My role as a psychologist is to help you cultivate awareness and compassion in the process of exploring your experience and your relationships with others, and facilitate your ability to harness your innate resources for growth. I work with people at all stages of the lifespan: in the beginning relational dance between parents and infants and throughout childhood, to adolescence when families help their children launch, with young adults navigating the world, with couples learning how to be intimate partners, when separation or divorce occurs, and throughout adulthood.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
