I have studied and trained extensively in Psychoanalytic models of psychotherapy including Self-Psychology, Jungian Psychology and Attachment-Based Psychotherapy.
In a word, my approach to therapy is relational. I am at my best when I am centered, curious and genuinely engaged in my client's experience... exploring, nuancing and understanding their unique perspective and the struggles they are facing. I believe in the importance of finding the right "fit" between client and therapist and it is for that reason that I strive to be authentic and fully engaged in every session. My training, areas of specialization and personal style are well suited for those who might be seeking to go deeper in their understanding of themselves and their relationships.

My approach consists of a mixture of techniques and philosophies, including attachment-based therapies, CBT, and narrative therapy.
Life can be an overwhelming and confusing puzzle at times. Therapy allows you to take the time to carefully pick up those pieces and create a life that you can be at peace with. My therapeutic style is one that balances real connection with honest conversations. I collaborate with clients to create a judgement free space that will also challenge you directly to reach the goals you want to achieve. Together, we can find the right tools to help you cope with stress and navigate relationship dynamics. By exploring patterns and learning new skills in therapy, you can gain a renewed sense of confidence and strength.

"When the winds of change blow, some people build walls. Others build windmills." ....... Change. It is unavoidable. All people share this truth. Whether we choose it or not, life will change. We live. We adapt. We learn. Yet life teaches us another truth; that we are not alone. We are inherently social, loving beings. Our lives are embedded in many kinds of relationships. Sometimes those relationships are swimming happily along and sometimes not so much. The good news is that these truths about change and relationships enable us to grow. Whatever stage we are in, wherever our world is at, we aim to live with richness and joy.

I love working with clients who are new to or curious about therapy. Sometimes people feel that they have been half-living, or "faking it" (hoping to make it), but don't know what to do about it. Sometimes people are looking for ways to live more mindfully and purposefully. And sometimes people just need help tackling a specific problem. My work with clients generally focuses on anxiety, depression, life transitions, sleep issues, and relationship conflicts. Together, we can discover what changes will help your life become more enjoyable - and then put those changes into action.

Imago Relationship Therapy is very helpful in restoring connection, safety, and romance. As a Certified Imago Therapist I enable each partner to be heard and understood so the needs of each can be met. Usually couples experience some immediate relief from the pain of alienation and begin to rediscover the love that brought them together. If your spouse won't come for counseling, come alone! Are you feeling like it’s hard to authentically connect with others? As a relational therapist, I recognize that our connections with others are the basis of both the greatest struggles and the greatest rewards we can know as humans. I specialize in work with couples, families, and individuals who have "non-traditional" relationships and sexualities. My work with clients is open and collaborative, often using narrative therapy, attachment theory, and systems theory to help people flesh out their sense of identity and strengths. You can expect transparency, a culturally-attuned lens, and a little bit of humor in therapy with me.

"What we cannot hold, we cannot process. What we cannot process, we cannot transform. What we cannot transform haunts us. It takes another mind to help us heal ours. It takes other minds and hearts to help us grow and re-grow the capacities we need to transform suffering." Joseph Bobrow. Whatever your suffering, whether it's the legacy of trauma, or the challenges of our modern world, it can be held, processed and transformed.

Life is all about relationships--beginning with the one you have with yourself. My goal is to provide a safe place for you to explore your underlying feelings leading to a better understanding and acceptance of who you are and who you can be. I will provide you a supportive relationship as you re-gain control of your life. Changes within often change relationships with others and that can be challenging, even frightening, yet rewarding. We will work together to strengthen emotional bonds with loved ones, cope with grief and loss, deal with trauma, and maintain a sense of inner balance.

You Don’t Have to Go Through Life’s Struggles Alone Often in life, our journey towards growth and happiness becomes obstructed by our past experiences. Additionally, current experiences, stressors, and traumas, can impact our mental health and well-being. Our unmanaged fear, trauma, anxiety, and depression can leave us feeling like we are not worthy of happiness or positive relationships. These underlying thoughts impact our actions and emotions and can impact our quality of life and mental health. However, you do not have to face these challenges alone.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
