Navigating life's challenges can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. My approach to therapy balances practical strategies for changing unwanted behaviors with deeper exploration of how these patterns developed. Many of my clients, ages 14 and up, find themselves reflecting on early experiences and family-of-origin dynamics as part of their healing journey. I work with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and addiction, often uncovering the underlying trauma that has led to these difficulties. Many come to therapy feeling stuck—trapped in emotional or behavioral patterns that no longer serve them.

Breaking unhealthy habits, getting "unstuck", or working through life’s challenges requires creativity. But when we are feeling depressed, anxious, or overwhelmed, our brains tend to follow rigid patterns of thinking, feeling, and reacting. And that makes creativity difficult to access. As a therapist, my goal is to develop a fully creative process with each client and provide a comfortable space to explore and discuss different perspectives and self-care strategies.

As an individual, couple, and family therapist, I provide support to those experiencing life transitions, relational difficulties or changes, issues with sex or sexuality, and anxiety. My style of therapy focuses on understanding the patterns, core beliefs, themes, and cycles that serve as barriers getting in the way of the life you want. My approach is curious, creative, and balances reflecting on the past for greater insight with an action-oriented approach that develops practical skills and tools to use outside of session.

I believe that times of crisis can also be times of transition and development. As a therapist, I strive to help clients put family and individual crises in the proper perspective, so they can begin to mobilize their own resources for change. Acceptance and insight into oneself and one's situation are powerful tools that therapy can enhance, both for adults and children of all ages. I have years of therapy experience helping clients cope with painful and difficult situations, including addiction/compulsions, damaged relationships, bereavement/loss, and abuse. The first session can be a powerful and positive step.

Many of my clients come to therapy feeling disconnected, heavy, or unsure of how to move forward. They’ve carried the weight of trauma, cultural expectations, and self-doubt for too long. I view healing as a collaborative and intuitive process, where we honor the wisdom within your body, mind, and emotions. Together, we’ll begin to uncover new pathways toward wholeness, peace, and self-acceptance while reconnecting to your story and your inner strength.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
