I conduct individual, couples and family therapy .
We all want to live healthy, engaged lives of meaning and value. As we live, negative events occur which can lead to use feeling "stuck" and miserable. However, I believe that one can choose to live differently, that change can occur for anyone regardless of your age, problems, or circumstances. Therapy with me involves engaging in a meaningful conversation with each other in a safe environment. Part of this change occurs in our establishment of a collaborative relationship emphasizing respect and authenticity. In therapy, we will explore strengths, values, ways of thinking, expression of emotion, and behaving in healthy ways.

My ideal client is someone who is open to explore their feelings, beliefs, behavior, and relationships and undertake the journey of change. This will not always be easy; change is difficult and we often times get stuck in unhealthy patterns of behaviors and beliefs. Change can be uncomfortable - sometimes even frightening - even when your in pain. My ideal client is willing to do battle with their ambivalence and their fears and participate in the struggle to learn new ways to cope and deal with what hurts them.

My education as a counseling psychologist was in the client-centered/experiential tradition, and I have been a practicing psychotherapist, teacher, and consultant for the past 28 years. After completing my doctorate, I trained in family systems therapy and have had extensive experience with adolescents and their families, as well as with married couples. In addition to adults and adolescents, my practice has expanded in the past several years to include seniors and other residents in nursing and rehabilitation facilities.

I am on most insurance panels and have morning, afternoon and evening appointments, including Saturday. What you can expect when you call my office is a return call from me, personally, that day. “Dig within. Within is the wellspring of Good; and it is always ready to bubble up, if you just dig.” Marcus Aurelius. I've been fortunate enough to witness the ability that psychotherapy has to reflect a clear and uplifting view of your true self. Our emotions are deep, complex, and often misunderstood. By safely building meaningful context around your emotions, thoughts, and experiences, you understand yourself more clearly. This understanding gives you the freedom to pursue a life that makes you truly happy.

I am a psychotherapist who tailors my approach to each individual and family .
Do you have a child or adolescent that is suffering from anxiety or depression? Transitions can be difficult and result in symptoms, stress and unhappiness for some youth. I work to help each person get through their challenges and find their strengths. Families can benefit from a therapist who helps them to process their feelings and experiences. Parents can feel overwelmed when their child is suffering.

My certifications and training's include:Clinical Hypnosis (American Society of Clinical Hypnosis); the Internal Family Systems (IFS) Model; and cross cultural psychology.
I believe that we all have an innate wisdom and capacity to know the solutions to our problems but we may not be aware of our potential. My goal is to empower you to build upon your inner resources and that's how I chose the name of my practice; Self Empowerment Center. I seek to understand your personal, cultural and spiritual beliefs. Through this holistic approach, I tailor treatments based upon your unique needs. Therapy process is like an organized sport which has players and a coach. Players make the moves, working hard (you) and the coach (me) is guiding and directing.

I do individual, family and couples' therapy and I see children, teenagers, adults and seniors.
Forget the Insurance? Problem issues with insurance are on the rise often for clients AND therapists! Affordability and access to therapy for clients is often an issue. Premiums, claim denials, copays, deductibles and authorizations are frequently creeping higher and can create obstacles for individuals considering or seeking therapy. As a therapist, I would like to help. I am providing an introductory offer of 3 sessions at $50 per session (plus processing fees) to help you get started and decide if we are well-suited to work together. After 3 sessions, a Standard fee of $65 (plus processing fess) will be charged per session.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
