Family life can be where we feel loved and supported, or we feel confusion, overwhelm, and grief. Family life is already complicated, especially when it is impacted by trauma, neurodiveristy, or adoption and foster care, or some combination of all three. Subsequently, you can feel misunderstood, alone, and "othered" by friends and family. And I see you! I provide a safe and compassionate environment through the lens of relational neuroscience, specializing in the care for adults and parents impacted by trauma, neurodiversity, adoption, and foster care.

I love working with children, adolescents, & families. My approach helps reduce the sense of fear associated with past traumas. I love supporting parents as they work on co-regulation skills, which in turn supports the child in learning to independently regulate their emotions. I believe that people are strong, powerful, and capable on their own, and it is my job to help each client utilize their own inner strengths. My approach is especially helpful for guiding those struggling with addiction, as we will work together to figure out what is working and what is not. These individuals typically appreciate the realistic approach I take.

I am an EMDR certified, women centered therapist who specializes in maternal mental health and post-traumatic stress disorder. I teach women to take care of themselves first so they can better care for others. Trained during my work at The Postpartum Stress Center, I treat women who struggle with trauma, postpartum adjustment, infertility, birth trauma, infant loss/miscarriage and adoption struggles. We strengthen the relationship to self, build a sense of emotional safety with others. We will shift the lens on the mommy myths, cultural expectations and perfectionistic standards which can cause overwhelm and shame.

My approach honors past and present experiences in a grounded and mindful way, blending cognitive, somatic and energetic approaches with trauma therapy, according to what is most needed and helpful.
Our difficulties need not be sources of shame, guilt or blame; rather, when understood, they can help us develop wisdom, understanding and compassion. Gaining insight and perspective through counseling allows fresh meaning and motivation into our lives and our relationships. Starting this work is an investment in yourself, allowing you to learn about yourself and what makes you unique, while expanding the possibilities of what can be.

I use CBT and EMDR as my main therapy modalities, but also incorporate exposure therapy and somatic processing.
Most mental health symptoms can be traced back to trauma; it’s not what is wrong with you, but what has happened to you. The effects of trauma can last for months, years, or a lifetime. When there is trauma, negative beliefs are created, inhibiting our ability to function fully, affecting the way we view ourselves, others, and the world we live in. We may feel that if we could just "push through" or bury our symptoms and memories, that is enough, until it isn't. In the beginning of therapy, we focus on symptom relief with self-care, coping skills, and boundary setting - then, going further and healing the trauma, if desired.

We only have minimal openings for our Signature Program, not covered by insurance. Overwhelmed and wondering why you can't get over it? Are you anxious, burnt out, stuck, or simply tired from a loss or change? Or maybe it's more like you're simply "overdoing it" in ways such as over worrying, working, drinking, or eating. If you're being really honest with yourself, are you in a relationship that's draining you and you're not sure what to do, but know it's affecting you? Using our 9 step process we help you make sense of this, heal and make better choices for yourself.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
