Life is complicated. Both my professional experiences and my own life experiences have taught me this. Women in particular experience unique challenges in today's world. We are faced with pressure from many sources, both internally and externally. I specialize in working with women of all ages, including
teen
girls. I offer secure, confidential video sessions so you can participate in therapy from the comfort of your home. As women we are often so busy with other responsibilities, that we put ourselves on the back burner. This is an opportunity to take care of you! You deserve it!

I enjoy working with a variety of life stages(
adolescent
, adult, senior), with challenges that range from easily addressed life dilemmas to those who need longer term therapy for such issues as early abuse/neglect and PTSD. I believe that safety, trust, and time are necessary to help people to make significant movement toward wholeness, integration of self, and a more fulfilling life. Brain Body Research has proven that the body is adversely affected by Chronic/Severe Stress and Limiting Beliefs about self and one's life situation.

I believe we all possess more power than we give ourselves credit for when it comes to healing and finding our inner peace. My focus tends to be geared toward helping people find their strengths and see what they CAN do and what they are capable of verses looking at themselves as having "issues" or "problems" that hinder them from being where they want to be.

Your anxiety is relentless and has taken over every aspect of your life. You’ve struggled with it for so long but nothing seems to be able to get it to go away. You try, oh, believe me, you try. Regardless of what you do, how many times you do it, or how long you do it, the anxiety persists. Your mind is a playground for anxiety provoking, distressing and sometimes obsessive thoughts that are uncomfortable and sometimes even makes you question you as a person. Who would have thoughts like this? Why can't I let this go? What makes me so afraid of this? One thing is for certain, it doesn't seem like ANYTHING really works.

I've been in practice for over 30 years and in that time have continued to appreciate the amazing strengths and courage that people have, despite their self-doubt. It is the challenge to unravel the doubt that keeps me energized, but humbled by the amazing courage most of my clients possess in dealing with their struggles. It is my hope that I somehow can assist them in appreciating themselves and the systems from which they come and exist, but how they truly can be creators of change in their lives.

If this sounds like you, let's talk.

I believe that whether you're needing support with a current challenge, a past trauma, or navigating a life transition, you deserve a space that is welcoming and free of judgment. My goal as your therapist is to help you feel empowered and in control. I do not claim to be the expert on your life, and consider therapy a collaborative process where your voice matters. Common issues I address include coping and self-regulation skills, anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting support, self-esteem, safe expression of feelings, grief, psycho-education, safety planning, healthy relationships, boundaries, and pregnancy/postpartum support.

I want to help you reach your goals, build confidence, work through difficult issues, and listen when you need support. I offer life coaching on a sliding scale. I prefer coaching vs. counseling because my focus is less on diagnosing mental illness and more on skill-building and supporting you as a whole person. All areas should be evaluted-emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual/religious, financial, occupational etc. in order to identify strengths and needs and to live a more balanced life.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
