I've worked with many individuals and their families struggling with anxiety, depression , alcohol or drug abuse, trauma, and more.
Sometimes we get stuck. Life blindsides us and we haven't a clue how to cope with the cards we've been dealt. Other times, we encounter the same problem over and over again and can't seem to find our way out of that cycle. Our methods of coping and communicating aren't working. In fact, they may be making problems worse, creating new problems, and intensifying the pain we feel. We just want to feel seen, heard, and understood by someone. We are tired and lost. We want to get our lives back on track, but we aren't sure which direction to walk.

I enjoy working with both adults and children on issues including depression , trauma/PTSD, anxiety, AD/HD, behavioral issues, grief/loss, relational issues, and other issues surrounding family dynamics.
Sometimes we lose our way in life or we are inhibited by past trauma/grief that can leave us overwhelmed and confused. I believe that you can't always choose your circumstances in life, but you can choose to overcome them. I also believe that you have the power to manage/control your thoughts and feelings instead of allowing them to control you. My goal is to help you work through those past or current issues, overcome those difficult circumstances in life, and to help you gain control over your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to help enhance your well-being.

The ability to acknowledge our struggles is the first step towards positive change. We are all capable of it. The majority of my career has been spent working with children, teenagers and young adults. The focus is usually on helping them manage issues related to depression , anxiety, ADHD, trauma and low self-esteem. I enjoy getting to engage in family therapy, with the focus on improving communication and family dynamics. My work with adults focuses on similar concerns. I enjoy clients who come to therapy with a desire to understand themselves and change behaviors or thought patterns that are negatively impacting their lives.

I have seen positive, long lasting results using a holistic approach with such issues as anxiety, depression , abuse issues, traumatic events, relational issues, parenting issues, childhood issues, grief and loss, personality disorders, women's issues, and marriage and family dynamics.
My philosophy towards therapy and, being a therapist, can be put this way.You can create positive change in your life. You can overcome difficult and even seemingly overwhelming obstacles. The first step is to believe that you are worthy of a better life no matter what the present situation tells you. The next step is to accept that, 'Life is a Journey'. I think there is incredible wisdom and hope in those words; a journey is on-going, and, life gives you opportunities to change as you choose! Sometimes we just need a little help figuring out how to start.

I have over 15 years of experience with substance use, depression , anxiety, and trauma across community, residential, and collegiate settings.
We all experience events, whether earlier in life or more recent, that cause us to become stuck. Sometimes the cause of our symptoms is quite clear, other times it can be difficult to recognize what is causing avoidance, doubt, depression , anxiety, or escape. I empower people to identify, confront, and heal from past memories or recent experiences that lead to undesired thoughts, emotions, or behaviors. I believe people naturally move towards becoming the best versions of themselves and, with some guidance, can make choices that move them in healthy directions.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression therapists in Normal. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
