The ability to acknowledge our struggles is the first step towards positive change. We are all capable of it. The majority of my career has been spent working with children, teenagers and young adults. The focus is usually on helping them manage issues related to depression, anxiety , ADHD, trauma and low self-esteem. I enjoy getting to engage in family therapy, with the focus on improving communication and family dynamics. My work with adults focuses on similar concerns. I enjoy clients who come to therapy with a desire to understand themselves and change behaviors or thought patterns that are negatively impacting their lives.

I've worked with many individuals and their families struggling with anxiety , depression, alcohol or drug abuse, trauma, and more.
Sometimes we get stuck. Life blindsides us and we haven't a clue how to cope with the cards we've been dealt. Other times, we encounter the same problem over and over again and can't seem to find our way out of that cycle. Our methods of coping and communicating aren't working. In fact, they may be making problems worse, creating new problems, and intensifying the pain we feel. We just want to feel seen, heard, and understood by someone. We are tired and lost. We want to get our lives back on track, but we aren't sure which direction to walk.

Do you feel stress or anxiety ? Does your life feel out of balance? Although you are managing, you might feel like it takes more effort to do what came easily before. Perhaps you feel stuck, and need some guidance and support to get back on track, and moving toward achieving your goals and dreams. Imagine having a comfortable, supportive place where you can be yourself and begin working to change the things preventing you from moving forward and thriving. When working with individuals, I help them identify, explore, and integrate creative and customized solutions to overcome their fears , break down barriers, and get "unstuck."

My specialty areas are women's issues, perinatal and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, college student mental health, and anxiety disorders.
*No openings available right now* There is great strength in allowing someone to hold hope for you until you can discover it for yourself. My favorite part of therapy is helping people find their own light, strength, and resiliency. People already have all the answers they need inside of them. My role is to help them find the answers for themselves. I use a combination of evidence-based approaches to help people examine and modify unbalanced thinking patterns, develop self-awareness and insight, and strengthen their relationships. I respect cultural differences and incorporate them into treatment.

I enjoy working with both adults and children on issues including depression, trauma/PTSD, anxiety , AD/HD, behavioral issues, grief/loss, relational issues, and other issues surrounding family dynamics.
Sometimes we lose our way in life or we are inhibited by past trauma/grief that can leave us overwhelmed and confused. I believe that you can't always choose your circumstances in life, but you can choose to overcome them. I also believe that you have the power to manage/control your thoughts and feelings instead of allowing them to control you. My goal is to help you work through those past or current issues, overcome those difficult circumstances in life, and to help you gain control over your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to help enhance your well-being.

I have seen positive, long lasting results using a holistic approach with such issues as anxiety , depression, abuse issues, traumatic events, relational issues, parenting issues, childhood issues, grief and loss, personality disorders, women's issues, and marriage and family dynamics.
My philosophy towards therapy and, being a therapist, can be put this way.You can create positive change in your life. You can overcome difficult and even seemingly overwhelming obstacles. The first step is to believe that you are worthy of a better life no matter what the present situation tells you. The next step is to accept that, 'Life is a Journey'. I think there is incredible wisdom and hope in those words; a journey is on-going, and, life gives you opportunities to change as you choose! Sometimes we just need a little help figuring out how to start.

It was Irvin Yalom who said something to the effect that "psychotherapy is like a dress rehearsal for life". With this said, it is my intention to not only offer you support in therapy but to also help you generalize the skills you learn in therapy and apply them in your outside life and relationships. I specialize in anger and anxiety management for adults and adolescents. I hold an Anger Management Certification. I also enjoy working with highly intelligent adults and teens who have a difficult time adjusting and adapting socially. This includes working with individuals on the high functioning end of the Autism scale.

I also enjoy helping people develop strategies for managing their anxiety , including cognitive-behavioral strategies and mindfulness/relaxation techniques.
Many individuals and families have been through very difficult circumstances, including trauma. We often do not have a choice about the circumstances we face, but we can heal from these experiences and even turn them into opportunities for growth.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
