The ability to acknowledge our struggles is the first step towards positive change. We are all capable of it. The majority of my career has been spent working with children, teenagers and young adults. The focus is usually on helping them manage issues related to depression, anxiety,
ADHD
, trauma and low self-esteem. I enjoy getting to engage in family therapy, with the focus on improving communication and family dynamics. My work with adults focuses on similar concerns. I enjoy clients who come to therapy with a desire to understand themselves and change behaviors or thought patterns that are negatively impacting their lives.

I understand your exhausting battle with “Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria,” the toxic shame of
Attention Deficit
Disorder, and your core belief of inadequacy, while justifing your existence to everyone.
You appear to have all your shit together on the outside, but you are a mess on the inside. You don’t tell how you really feel for fear of judgment. You continue wearing the mask of perfection and you are exhausted. You ask yourself, "What am I doing wrong? Why is my best never good enough?" You want to believe God has a plan for you, but you're not even sure you believe in God anymore. I assure you, it is no just you. This struggle is real for EveryBody. “After years in "the struggle," I know there is hope, but you can’t find it on your own. I look forward to hearing from you about ways I can help.

My ideal client comes from many walks of life. They are children, teenagers, and adults and present with anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, relationship and family problems, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (
ADHD
), school problems, and oppositional-defiant disorder. They all share a common need to be heard, empowered, and guided on the path of recovery. I provide evidence-based treatments tailored to the needs of my clients. I focus on strengths and capabilities rather than "illness."

What I love most about being a therapist is seeing how positive changes in one person have a ripple effect in their family and community. We are truly all connected. I believe my non-threatening down -to- earth support, optimism, and problem-solving skills are my greatest therapy strengths. I would love the opportunity to listen to you and help you uncover the strengths you need to live life to the fullest.

Before I was a therapist, I was an educator. For one course, my job was to teach first responders how to get important information from potentially traumatized witnesses/victims. I often wondered what I would do if I were permitted to see the crisis through. I believe it's my combination of a solid background in communication-which includes relationships, gender-speak, assertiveness and self-talk-and my education in Clinical Psychology and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor certification that provide for a well-balanced approach to individual counseling.

Sometimes we lose our way in life or we are inhibited by past trauma/grief that can leave us overwhelmed and confused. I believe that you can't always choose your circumstances in life, but you can choose to overcome them. I also believe that you have the power to manage/control your thoughts and feelings instead of allowing them to control you. My goal is to help you work through those past or current issues, overcome those difficult circumstances in life, and to help you gain control over your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to help enhance your well-being.

Greg specializes in trauma-focused therapy for children ages 5 & up, adolescents, and adults. For those who have experienced childhood trauma, relational trauma, or complex trauma, life often feels overwhelming. Their sense of self, relationships, & view of the past, present, & future become rocky at best. As a result many trauma survivors live in chronic state of anxiety, depression, numbness, fatigue, burn out & suffer from illness. In addition to trauma survivors, Greg works closely with children, teens, young adults, & adoptive families struggling with depression, anxiety, dissociation, mood disorders, behavioral issues & more.

Many humans suffer from emotional distress and psychological symptoms due to aversive life events. Often times, negative experiences can become “stuck” in our brains impacting how we perceive ourselves, others, or the world. Our beliefs about ourselves can become skewed and negative. As a trauma-trained therapist, I can help you work through these past events and shift these beliefs in order to be able to live the life YOU want to live.

Finding the right therapist can be a vulnerable and challenging process. I approach therapy with collaboration and non-judgment at the center of each therapeutic relationship. Therapy should be a safe and intentional space to take risks, unpack and explore our experiences, and develop new ways of thinking and feeling about ourselves and our place in the world. My style is casual and compassionate, utilizing metaphors and psychoeducation, to help clients develop insights about their experience, identify tools and strategies to reduce distress, and understand theory relevant to their circumstances.

My philosophy towards therapy and, being a therapist, can be put this way.You can create positive change in your life. You can overcome difficult and even seemingly overwhelming obstacles. The first step is to believe that you are worthy of a better life no matter what the present situation tells you. The next step is to accept that, 'Life is a Journey'. I think there is incredible wisdom and hope in those words; a journey is on-going, and, life gives you opportunities to change as you choose! Sometimes we just need a little help figuring out how to start.

It was Irvin Yalom who said something to the effect that "psychotherapy is like a dress rehearsal for life". With this said, it is my intention to not only offer you support in therapy but to also help you generalize the skills you learn in therapy and apply them in your outside life and relationships. I specialize in anger and anxiety management for adults and adolescents. I hold an Anger Management Certification. I also enjoy working with highly intelligent adults and teens who have a difficult time adjusting and adapting socially. This includes working with individuals on the high functioning end of the Autism scale.

"I am a firm believer in finding balance between feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and actions. Sometimes what we are dealing with is simply present day stress, needing a safe environment to process and get feedback. Other times events from our past dictate our reactions to today's experiences. This leads to giving our power away and continuing to suffer. I practice cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as other approaches when indicated, always focusing on the client's goals. I am focused on respectful approaches to teaching tools that allow each client's efforts to result in positive impacts throughout their lives."

[I am currently not taking new clients, wishing you the best in your healing journeys] Often, we mistakenly ask the question, "what's wrong with me?" when the question to ask is, "what happened to me?" I work with children, adolescents, and adults - individually and in parent-child dynamics.

ADHD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
