I understand that each person has their own story that has shaped them into who they are and what they are experiencing. I meet every client where they are in their story and help guide them to where they would like to be. My goal is to help adolescents and young adults reach their fullest potential by supporting, educating, and instilling hope in them and their future. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive space that allows them to explore themselves, their strengths, and their goals.

Whether you're an adolescent or an adult struggling with anxiety or depression, dealing with a painful loss, looking to understand the impact of trauma, making a life transition, or hoping to develop a stronger sense of self, Lauren’s goal is to offer the tools you need to feel safe, whole, and healthy.

It is extremely important that my client's feel comfortable with me and my work, otherwise therapy becomes a task, not something rewarding or nurturing. Teaching clients how to validate each feeling/emotion, how to sit with feelings and not run away from them is what I do best! I'd love to ask you why is it you may tend to cycle in the same energies and what would happen if you stepped out of it? Would love to hear your response! The way we think affects how we feel and then affects how we behave. I believe that every tear drop has a voice, if your tears had a voice what would they be saying?

I recognize that coming into counseling can be one of the most challenging things a person can do for themselves. In my work I strive to meet every child, teen, adult, and parent where they are in order to be most effective in communicating. I take a collaborative approach in working towards an individual’s goals and along the way can provide education, support, and a new perspective. In my work I have used empirically supported theories to treat depression, anxiety, and OCD in both children/adolescents and adults. My hope for every client is that they feel empowered and able to take on life’s challenges.

Everyone at times in their lives will face personal obstacles that seem insurmountable. These challenging and painful aspects of life exist not only at the individual level, but also in relationships, interactions, social patterns, and dynamics. Accessing inner strengths and understanding how past experiences have molded one’s understanding of self is key to healing one’s present self and effectively navigating through these life hurdles. I believe everyone has the right to be heard and feel important. This is why I have created an individualized and unique model that will meet each individual where they are and help you to reach the goals that you have for your life. Therapy begins with creating a trusting therapeutic relationship where you can feel safe. Together, we will identify what is the life you want in order to create a road map to get there. I believe that therapy is a partnership and it is a privilege to share that journey with you.

Self-Harming Therapists
How does therapy for self-harm work?
A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.
Which therapies are best for self-harm?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.
Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?
Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
