Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, as well as Mindfulness and Narrative Techniques, I work with you in a spirit of openness to identify what is important to you for your well-being and relationships - and take the action needed to make those qualities a part of your life.
I look forward to working with you on making and taking the choices and actions that move you towards building a life filled with meaning based on your values and goals. The struggles we all face, large and small, are part of what define our humanity - be it anxiety, trauma, or confusion. It is the compassion and willingness for intimacy we show to ourselves and others that defines much of the rest. I enjoy working with my clients as they go through the process of defining who and what they want to be and then help them go about achieving it.

As a counselor, my approach is trauma-informed and rooted in CBT, DBT, and ACT .
Sometimes we may find that our experiences in life have led us to having difficulty finding motivation, feeling anxious about our future or mistakes of our past, and/or maintaining habits that no longer work for us. Depression, anxiety, and trauma can also at times have an effect on how we navigate our relationships. Maybe we're needing to reignite a passion of ours or find a what brings us calm. Although our struggles can feel isolating, it's important to remember that we don't have to figure out how to cope alone and we aren't meant to.

I mainly utilize an ACT approach but also integrate other interventions to address a wide-variety of issues.
"You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." I believe this quote perfectly exemplifies my goal working with you as a client. When working with you, my number one priority is to create a safe environment and develop a strong, collaborative relationship. Therapy is a difficult process. However, we can create a safe environment which could ease this difficulty greatly. I utilize evidence-based interventions to help you learn to manage the challenges that life places in front of you and help you realize the strength inside of you to engage those challenges in a healthy manner.

My treatment approach focuses on empowering clients through education, cognitive and behavioral strategies (e/rp) and acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT ).
Anxiety and stress impact all of us. When things in your life feel unmanageable, it's time to get some support. It can feel vulnerable reaching out but typically people feel better once they take the first step.

Wow! What a rough couple of years it's been. Have you noticed yourself becoming more anxious, stressed, worried, and depressed? Perhaps you are now more isolated, lonely, and missing the hope and joy you once had. If so, you're not alone. Seeking or even just considering clinical counseling is a brave act , and I applaud you for the effort it took. I know it can be scary, especially if it's your first time talking to a psychotherapist. But the only way to determine if it's right for you is to reach out. When you do, you will find me on the other end. I'm compassionate and caring without judgment.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
