Right now, you're probably in one of a few different head-spaces. Maybe you've been dealing with something on your own a long time, and now you're looking for help. Or, you have the sense that something is off, and you're considering your options. Maybe things have never been worse, and you feel like you're drowning in it. In any case, you've likely noticed that persisting in a private, internal struggle is very challenging and lonely.

Human beings' brains are wired for affiliation. Healthy relationships are crucial to our physical and mental health. Neuroscience is only now able to show the positive effects of mutual, evolving social and familial connections to other people. Often, people come to therapy to find out why they feel so stressed, or unfulfilled, or why their relationships are not all they would hope for. Is there an underlying trauma? Is there a genetic component? I believe that most people have their answers, they just need safe spaces where they can explore the issues. I will help you look for solutions from within yourself.

I work with an eclectic array of mental health topics, including; sexual health and wellness, anxiety, depression, political anxiety, intimacy, kink, traditional & non-traditional relationships, mood regulation, and life transitions.
Hello! I am a forensic psychotherapist in practice with Naperville Counseling Center. I aim to provide support and encouragement as individuals work on their mental health. Building a strong rapport is essential to creating trust, and I believe developing a healthy connection with each client is key. I enjoy integrating humor into therapy to break up some of the heaviness that emotional processing can bring. Coming from a forensic background, I have experience working with intense areas of need, support, and planning. I also have a passion for assisting clients in building and/or rebuilding their relationships with sexual health.

You deserve relationships, intimacy, and a life that feels alive and true to you. I work with individuals, couples, and polycules who are exploring identity, navigating relational conflict, or seeking deeper connection with themselves and others. Many of the people I support identify as LGBTQIA+, practice consensual non-monogamy, or are curious about cultivating a healthier, more liberated relationship with pleasure. At the same time, my practice is open to anyone longing for more authenticity, healing, and connection in their life. I receive ongoing clinical mentorship from Jessica Fern, author of Polysecure.

You are good. Rarely do folks act in ways that don't make sense to them. Maybe you are experiencing frustration in relationships. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed by sadness, fears, or exhaustion. You are human. In this space you will be heard and validated as you discover more about yourself and develop compassion for the parts of you that may seem most dark. And sometimes the path to wellness is to allow ourselves to be discovered more deeply.

I particularly enjoy working with nontraditional and frequently "othered" relationship structures, including kink/BDSM dynamics and polyamory/CNM.
Authentic connections with other human beings are central to our personal growth, well-being, and liberation. Fear of judgement from others and harm caused by oppressive systems leave many adults socially isolated. I hope to help you interrupt this cycle, person-to-person. Therapy is about growth and connection through life's hurdles. My clinical work is feminist, collaborative, and relational. I am nonjudgmental, curious, and straightforward in the therapy room. I work primarily with LGBT+, neurodivergent, chronically ill/dynamically disabled, kinky, and poly clients.

If you are interested in exploring issues related to gender identity, sexuality, kink, couples and relationship work, polyamory/nonmonogamy, or trauma, please reach out to schedule a consultation; I look forward to hearing from you!
Hi, I’m Sinéad! As a queer and trans woman, I am driven to practice social work in a way that moves towards liberation for all marginalized members of our communities, with the knowledge that the field of social work has contributed as much, if not more, to our collective oppression as to our healing.

Hi, I’m Shannon. Therapy with me feels like a conversation — one where we explore what’s beneath the surface with curiosity, compassion, and sometimes, a bit of humor. Because healing doesn’t have to be heavy all the time; sometimes, laughter is part of the medicine.

I am LGBTQIA+, ENM, sex-worker, and kink-affirming, with a firm belief that therapy should celebrate and explore the diverse identities and experiences of all clients.
Are you looking for help navigating a relationship or sexual dissatisfaction? Do you need somewhere to safely process the trauma or deconstruct the unhelpful beliefs that hinder you from becoming your most authentic self? The world can feel like a heavy place, and I am here to help you carry that burden. As a relational therapist, I believe that an individual is not the “problem,” rather that the “problem” is the undesirable pattern of interactions that are maintained by unhealed wounds. All behavior makes sense in context, and I will work alongside you to identify that context and facilitate your healing.

I’m pro- kink, pro-sex work, and familiar with polyamorous and nontraditional relationship structures.
At some point in our early childhoods, we learned (whether communicated directly or indirectly) that we must sacrifice a part of our authentic selves in order to be worthy of love. Even as adults, this shame around our true selves continues to hold us back from feeling deeply connected with others, living by our values, and finding internal peace to buoy us through uncertain, stressful times.

Sex-Positive, Kink Allied Therapists

Why might an individual want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?

A sex-positive or kinky individual may want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist because the client may feel safer and more supported discussing their experiences and challenges. A therapist who identifies as kink-friendly will have experience with clients having diverse sexual preferences and will likely be nonjudgmental and supportive about issues brought to the table. It is important to note that sex-positive, kink-allied individuals may find equal success with therapists who do not have such specialized knowledge and background. The most important factor in the success of therapy is for the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in sex-positive, kink-allied treatment?

Generally, no. There are limited training programs and unofficial accreditations that therapists can pursue, but a therapist’s expertise will ultimately come from their previous experience with similar clients, their engagement with organizations that promote sex positivity or kink-allied lifestyles, and the importance they place on safety and cultural sensitivity.

How can individuals recognize a good sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?

An experienced therapist is able to help clients explore their sexual identity and expression and relieve any discomfort or stigma attached to discussing such matters and the client’s overall challenges. A therapist who is sex-positive and kink-allied is able to create an environment that honors a client’s experience and sexual preferences. To recognize a good therapist, clients can simply ask directly about topics and issues important to them and gauge their comfort level and connection with a clinician based on the responses.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist with a focus on sex positivity and alternative sexual lifestyles?

Some individuals may feel most comfortable knowing that the clinician they’re working with has a commitment to creating an atmosphere of sex positivity and has experience with relationship diversity and alternative relationship structures. Working with a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist may help clients respect their own challenges and improve identity-affirming treatment.
