Do you run away from things you are afraid of or shut down? I can help you gain confidence and courage. Ruminating on what causes anxiety doesn't help, it just makes it worse. Feeling like there is no hope is immobilizing and it tears down your ability to feel good about what is happening in life. Disturbing events or traumas can be so devastating that it makes one feel like there is constant danger ahead or like there must be something wrong with them for allowing such things to happen. Let me help you feel less depressed, anxious, obsessed, or afraid and give you the boost that you need to create the life you want.

Do you find yourself struggling with something you feel like no one else will understand, or perhaps there is no one you can confide in for fear of being judged? Keeping things bottled up creates interpersonal conflict, affects our relationships, and hinders the ability to change. I believe that individuals want to be heard and understood, all the while respecting their unique differences.

*currently accepting new clients* Following a loss or life transition, it's common to feel disconnected, disillusioned, lacking confidence and motivation. If you've recently experienced a serious health diagnosis, divorce, estrangement, empty nest, or death. You may not be sure how to move forward into an uncharted landscape. You may question your beliefs, values, relationships, and priorities. You may miss your “old life” your “old self”. This is grief. Transformation. Transition. Right now, even the smallest effort can feel overwhelming, and I’m glad you’ve taken the step of coming here to see if therapy is for you.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor providing services to address anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, and relationship issues. Carl Jung asserted, "I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become." This concept is a key principle of my philosophy for change. We all possess the ability to heal, grow, and overcome adversity; though, we are not created to do it alone, and choosing a better path isn't always simple or easy. It requires wisdom, courage, willpower, commitment, and skill. Cultivating these is a process and journey. I want to help you to journey well.

Life is difficult. This is the first line from the book, The Road Less Travelled, by M. Scott Peck. Each of us is all too aware of this basic truth. Sometimes we need help navigating our journey, and therapy is great place to start! I believe building strong relationships with my clients provides a safe space to explore their life experiences, thoughts, and feelings. It is my goal to create an understanding and respectful environment where together we can discover the most effective means for positive change.

My personal belief is that when situations in life are thrown at us we can ignore them or try to accept and work through them. Each thing we go through in life impacts who we are as a person. We can either let them make us bitter or make us better. My goal for clients is to help you on your journey by providing tools, education, and support so you can find positive solutions to your problems by creating a comfortable, non-judgmental environment by demonstrating unconditional positive regard.

It is important for individuals to feel empowered in their everyday lives, feeling confident they can move forward working towards their goals. Each individual is different. I aid in helping identify strengths and positive qualities that make each individual unique. I encourage individuals to be the best version of themselves, providing support when barriers present themselves. Life cannot always be perfect, but the right attitude and outlook can go a long way. How can I find a therapist in Monroe County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
