During those years, I have gained extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, bipolar, ADHD , and substance use as well as various other issues.
The experience of anxiety and depression can feel debilitating and heavy. It can leave a person feeling stuck and hopeless caught in a loop of negative thinking and self-talk. Rarely can we identify any one thing causing this experience, rather, anxiety and depression are usually due to a more complex interaction of our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, environments, relationships, circumstances, and beliefs. By looking inward, we can better understand our own complex interaction of thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and beliefs that manifest into the experience of depression and anxiety. With understanding, we can begin to heal.

I have an extensive background in working with kids (as a school social worker), teens, and adults with a wide variety of issues including anxiety, self-esteem, ADHD , anger management, relationship issues, and grief.
Are you feeling alone even if you’re surrounded by people? Are you tired of the cycle of perfectionism or worry that is constantly running in your head? Is your child struggling to thrive in school or at home? I’m here to help. What I often see in my clients is that their passion and energy is crowded out by the confusion and stress of life. Teens and young adults often find it so helpful to have someone outside of the situation that is objective and caring to help them gain perspective and feel supported and understood. My goal is to provide a place where you come to feel heard and get some real direction.

My ideal client has motivation. They are someone who is willing to put in the work and better themselves. They are willing to learn and grow with my guidance and assistance. My ideal client is open and honest, even when it is difficult to be those things. They need support, encouragement, and someone to listen to them. Their goals are unique to them just as their needs and issues are unique to them. The important piece is that they are willing to start the journey of healing with me by their side.

We all experience stress, whether it be from our jobs, relationships, and/or life changes, big and small. Most of the time we handle everything just fine but sometimes life throws us a curve and we become overwhelmed. That is when I would encourage you to talk with a professional, whether it is me or another professional.

In some ways, the decision you’re about to make is the hardest part of this process. Choosing the right therapist and “type of therapy” can be confusing. That’s why I’d like to explain a little about my training and my approach to make your choice a little easier. My training taught me that by knowing what to listen for, I can connect your symptoms to your past life experiences. Once we start to do that, I will help you identify the reasons those experiences were hard to resolve. When something is hard to resolve, we tend to avoid it, which is why our mind then tells us that something still feels unresolved by producing symptoms.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
