Are you overwhelmed by life’s challenges, struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or the complexities of being autistic or having ADHD? Maybe you're dealing with high stress, navigating parenting or pregnancy, and seeking balance. You seek a nonjudgmental, holistic approach that balances evidence-based treatments with lived experience. Your goal is to build self-awareness, emotional regulation skills, compassion, manage stress, and live authentically. You want to go beyond just modifying behaviors and understand the thoughts, beliefs, and emotions driving them for more meaningful change. You want to feel supported and heard.

Life is hard sometimes. Maybe you’re dealing with a difficult relationship or maybe you are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or past hurts. Maybe you feel isolated and like no one will understand what is going on inside you. Possibly you have thoughts, feelings or behaviors that you don’t want but have no idea how to change. I want you to know you are not alone. Providing a safe place where you feel accepted, heard and understood is one of my top priorities. Working together, we can better understand the reasons for the things you struggle with and empower you to handle them in a healthy way.

I strive to cultivate an environment where my clients feel comfortable and safe to explore different thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and experiences. Therapy is not a “one size fits all”. I will meet you where you are in your journey, as we move alongside each other at a pace that works best for you. Together, as an individual or family unit, we will work towards setting goals, finding more effective ways to cope, and navigating life's challenges and opportunities as you work towards your goals. I have treated a wide variety of concerns, such as life transitions, depression, anxiety, ADHD, anger, and relationship issues.

Trying to find the counselor that best suits you can be frightening. It takes courage to try to seek help. Thank you for being here. Levels of resistance and vulnerability vary, but they are both important to understand for each unique individual. Whatever you bring to therapy, that is where I will meet you. I am here for who you are, and to meet you where you are at. This perspective speaks to my eclectic role as a therapist. I analyze a client and use the research and knowledge I have to apply the best theory or approach to help my client. I focus on what the client's goals are and how to help them reach them in healthy ways.

Therapy is a shared journey that requires trust and investment on both ends. I know that this kind of trust can take time to build. As such, I will always offer patience, understanding, and an open mind regarding anything that may be on your path. I will also always welcome your questions, curiosities, and critiques, and strive to respond in an open, honest, and direct manner. As a counselor, I recognize that our social locations and differing experiences affect our perspectives and approaches to the world, and I hold this in mind as I work with clients.

Often, counseling focuses on the symptoms of emotional struggles and never addresses the root causes. My deep interest in people, problems, and processes has allowed me to recognize the complex patterns of individuals, life experiences, family, trauma, relationships and how these have influenced the way clients see themselves and the world around them. With grace, understanding, and support, I seek to help clients understand how their past has shaped them, discover how ensnaring behaviors began (and continue) and then to restore dignity, well-being, and relationships.

I am passionate about creating a safe, nonjudgemental space for individuals and couples to process, learn and grow. In addition to encouraging my clients to set the pace of how they would like things to go, I also help them to challenge and reframe certain thought patterns that are causing suffering. In some way, life hasn't turned out exactly as you planned but you're not ready to give up. I've often found that, no matter the diagnosis, the folks I work with feel disconnected, dissatisfied, and struggle to create a meaningful life. You might worry so much about the future that you lie awake at night or miss out on special moments. You're overwhelmed and end up scrolling, numb with food or substances, or can't finish a book. You're keeping up on basic responsibilities but what you're doing isn't working long-term. Life has lost it's vibrancy. You may doubt that you can change and yet, here you are, taking that first step.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
