With more than 15 years of experience in the mental health field, I am passionate about helping individuals and professionals navigate life’s challenges while moving toward healing, balance, and wholeness. My background includes working with individuals, children, couples, and families in DCFS care, private practice, school settings, and organizational environments. I believe that people already possess the capacity for growth and healing, but sometimes need support, tools, and a safe space to reconnect with their strengths and move forward with clarity and confidence.

I view therapy as a safe and sacred space for processing life experiences, emotions, thoughts, and trauma in order to achieve one’s goals and necessary growth. My goal as a therapist is to collaborate with clients to understand their thought processes, address barriers to wellness, and identify ways in which they can achieve their goals. I believe that clients are the experts of their own lives: however, sometimes we need an outside perspective to help re-frame our thinking. I’m here to work with you to increase self-awareness and empower you to approach life in a way that enhances health and well-being.

My goal is to help Black women step out of the Superwoman role, redefine what the "strong Black woman" means, and be intentional about prioritizing your mental, physical, and emotional health! Some of the main issues I can help with are: depression, anxiety, stress, feeling overwhelmed, communication and conflict in relationships, family dynamics and generational patterns, self-worth, confidence, inner criticism, life transitions (parenthood, adolescence, separation, etc.), parenting support, shame, unmet needs, empowerment, and identity exploration.
Hi! My name is Migdalia. I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, and I provide therapy for individuals, families, and people in romantic relationships. I view the role of therapist not as someone who gives advice or tells you what to do, but as someone who helps guide you in getting more connected to yourself, feeling more confident in your decisions, and making sense of how your relationships, patterns, and past experiences shape what you’re dealing with today. I hold this role with deep honor, reverence, and a healthy serving of humor and authenticity.

I believe that therapy is a dynamic experience that can be extremely helpful for lots of people. The process of changing ones life for the better is often a difficult one that requires support and understanding. In my therapy practice I strive to be that supportive guide that many individuals need to get to the next level of existence. I believe that overcoming is not an event, it is a process. Whether one is overcoming depression, relationship issues, or traumatic life experiences, support and thoughtful guidance is often key in recovery.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
